I just started playing a month ago and my friends invited me to join them in the tournament coming up in Jan. Last night I went up against Stormcast and even though I won a minor victory, it was a total slaughter. His 120+ wounds vs my 83. I could rant about Stormcast but I think I am preaching to the choir. This was my army (Thunderquake and Firelance) EotG Slann Starmaster SV on Carni salamander w handlers 3 units of Knights Stegadon Bastiladon I am thinking of losing the Seraphon allegiance and possibly the warscrolls ( use Shadowstrike but is that necessary?) and use some Camo Skinks for objective taking and possibly removing cannons, etc. From any Order units, what battleline units do you suggest? (that's my main question.) I am actually thinking of using some Stormcast as my battleline... (rant continued: His Stormcast had range and melee, mortal wounds, mobility, multiple wounds, decent stats. It reminded me of the Hulk vs Loki(he wiped the floor with me). Although my knights did well, mostly because of insane Save rolls.)
Okay, after looking over all the "battleline" units, I decided to stick with skinks. What do you think of this? Leaders Skink Chief (60) - General - Ornate Club & Blowpipe - Trait: Legendary Fighter - Artefact: Relic Blade Slann Starmaster (260) Engine of the Gods (240) - Artefact: Quicksilver Potion Units Skinks x 40 (320) - Boltspitters & Star bucklers Saurus Warriors x 10 (100) - Club Skinks x 10 (80) - Boltspitters & Star bucklers Chameleon Skinks x 5 (120) Chameleon Skinks x 5 (120) Ripperdactyl Riders x 3 (140) Ripperdactyl Riders x 3 (140) Behemoths Bastiladon (300) War Machines Battalions Shadowstrike Starhost (120) Scenery Total: 2000/2000 I know it has some weaknesses...
Solid list, I assume your skinks are shadowstrike and chameleons are on their own? I like the idea of having 2 toads in the field for a bit of harassment and board control, but I probably would have put them in 1 unit of 6, or would rearrange things to take two shadowstrike. Though it would be tough choices to drop anything. I have always liked the Engine, and it is so good with the slann. Using the engine as your skink priest for the shadowstrike is also a great way to go.
I tried it, but the opponent balked at using the EotG as a Skink Priest, so I had to make some last minute changes. He was Stormcast, put his whole army in the sky and dropped in and crushed me first turn (destroying the Skinks and CCing the EotG and another Hero, Priest was decimated first turn, too). Most of that defeat was my fault, though, probably ended the same. I'm going to try this next: Leaders Saurus Sunblood (120) - Artefact: Relic Blade Saurus Scar-Veteran on Cold One (100) Saurus Scar-Veteran on Cold One (100) - Artefact: Relic Blade Saurus Oldblood (100) - Suntooth Maul Saurus Oldblood on Carnosaur (320) - General - Trait: Master of Defense - Artefact: Quicksilver Potion Skink Chief (60) - Golden Sickle Units Saurus Warriors x 40 (400) - Spear Skinks x 40 (320) - Boltspitters & Star bucklers Chameleon Skinks x 5 (120) Saurus Warriors x 10 (100) - Spear Ripperdactyl Riders x 3 (140) Battalions Bloodclaw Starhost (100) Total: 1980/2000
Balk all he wants but the keyword is there in the warscroll and it is in the FAQ For the new list you will need 3 units of saurus for the bloodclaw but solid list, though you might need to drop skinks for more warriors.
He said he didn't like it because it was SKINK and PRIEST but not SKINK PRIEST and that the warscroll referred to a model and not a keywords. What do you think?
The warscroll for the EotG include Skink, Priest, Skink Priest. At least the one included in the fisrt lizardmen battlescrolls, (which, by official FAQ, you can use). However, if I recall correctly, the trick in using a EotG as skink priest, was doable with the old Skink Patrol, which is almost identical to the Shadowstrike.
