With 4 wounds, it seems like a point sink at 250 points. Mine has been killed in one round of shooting in two games.
Well it's kind of just a buff wagon. How are you using it now? Preferably I'd have it hang back behind a combat block, maybe provide supporting charges as needed.
Well I guess any buff wagon would get in trouble with cannons. Not much to do there i think, besides getting some anti-cannon units and hoping you can take the cannon(s) out quick enough so that they won't kill the thyroscutus. Of course you could buy some expensive protection with an engine of the ancients, and give it a 5+ ward.
For 250 points.. to provide a Fireball (50 from Ring of fire).. +1 WS to all your skinks making them not hit on 5's but on 4's on a lot of units and your Caimans, monsters and other shit to hit at 3+ on most core units is very nice. On top of that it causes Terror.. = charge long ranged outside units for the Terror flee.. it can assist on charges especially on core blocks it does its best or at Chariots.. The 1 hit with 4+ to hit causing D3+1 S10 attack.. And then it even has 4 poison Javelins and 2+ AS T5.. for 250 points Just having it charging into a unit causing Fear and -1 on LD is also nice. Yes it is vulnerable to Cannons.. all monsters are.. but if you have this.. unless the person is lucky to get in 4 wounds it still draws fire away from lets say a cannon for 2-4 turns depending on how lucky the person is.. and at that time.. 1 dice a fireball back at the canon Usually the cannon dies first.. I have it in all my armies.. i play a skink Army but still.. its a no brainer to me
I go back and forth on it, but overall I like. I also keep it back behind some combat blocks, or close alongside them. Not much you can do against cannons, except, as Ninu said, that it's drawing fire from your more important damage-dealers. Only a lucky shot is going to knock him off in one turn.
