Thanks for the comments guys. I'm really happy with the rolling pin and how the carno came out.

Sometimes with thin paint, you can add a touch of opaque thick color to the first coat,
say a black or white, or perhaps the same basic color if you have it in opaque.
then go back after that has dried and do it again in the original color.
hopefully with better results. This does often take a little experimentation to get perfect.

Good point. Honestly I thought it was just thin. Now that I know it's supposed to go on in multiple coats makes me think it's designed so we have to buy more paint over time.

I think you´re right. I prefer a thick paint that I can thin down before usage than pre-thinned paints. That said I have never tried army painter´s range and maybe they come thinned for some other reason.
Also, I got the aztec rolling pin too, but haven´t used it yet. I´m thinking about using some putty that snaps once dry, so I can make a broken-stone feel more realistically. My guess would be fimo, do you guys know if it snaps?

A bunch of the air dry two part epoxies should snap. Pure milliput white is really fragile, and will totally shatter if it's cold and bumped hard enough. You could also make a reverse mold and pour plaster into it for super cheap breakable basing. Pottery clay might be a great solution as well if it can hold the detail, as once baked could be shattered into pieces for basing

Pottery clay, when wet for shaping, would be too slippery to take the detail from this rolling pin.

Update: forgot to attach the shield. Problem fixed. Base baked. Needs a few small adjustments. IMG_20170423_002102274.jpg IMG_20170423_093025070.jpg

Agreed. My issue is that it's overhanging on one side but it is baked, so I don't know how to cut it without damaging it

Maybe you could use a file to file it away.

If you have scrap piece, trying cutting it to see how easily it cuts. Also keep in mind that small breaks/cracks can easily be made to look like natural damage to the stone.

That said, it looks absolutely fine the way it is now. Just trying to throw out some ideas that can be mulled over.

Looks awesome, I like the contrast of the Icy looking saurus and the fiery looking carnosaur. That rolling pin created base is amazing.

Thanks @Bowser . I'm really enjoying it, however I'm going to switch to a different clay once I've used what I bought (thankfully not alot.) This one was inexpensive and it's relative softness shows when working with it.

Ok guys. Here's a plan for the next week or so.

Tonight/Monday night: finish the base and tidy up battle Captain on rhinosaur.

Teusday night: family business, possible painting, possible nothing

Wednesday: prime and paint more saurus warriors, possibly cold ones. Build cold one cav riders.

Thursday: normal day, painting possible but could be overridden by adulting

Friday: finish up saurus, hopefully finish cold ones. Start on cav if possible.

In the middle of all of this I have to take the haradrim. From my other projects logs off painting stands and sort them into partial units, possibly finish up 3 units of haradrim (only basing left) and sort out bits from a bag for some ushabti/ enslaved guardians.

Would anyone like a base like this? I am happy to do unit trays and single bases too
