If they brought back the Tomb Kings why would they be foul undead things??

    • Everything was reduced to cinders?
    • The spirit/souls of everything drifted off into the Cosmos?
    • Where they bumbled into "realms" (whatever those are) and plorp!
    • They is alive again!! In a realm (that resembles their home area of the former world).

So why would the Tomb Kings be any different? Why wouldn't they be Kingdoms of Living Men inhabiting palaces built in lush river valley with desert to either side?

Because then GW can't sell their TK sculpts. TK have a lot of great models (and a few bad ones too), if GW brought them back, it would be at least in some part due to them trying to sell things like Sphinxes, Necro Knights, Sepulchral Stalkers, Tomb Gaurd, etc.

Every AoS race in a nutshell (besides Seraphon).

Pretty much this. They need too sell the good figures and phase out/update the old ugly ones. If you want too make the TK a living faction, you would have too erase all the current miniatures and replace them.

What if they kept the Sphinx and whatever models you guys liked but the new stuff was living & breathing?

For what purpose? TK have such a cool and unique aesthetic.

Personally I'd only be interested in undead TK.

To have an army faction that consisted of both the living and the dead. Who here can think of a Wargames Army from any maker that is roughly half/half undead and living troops?

I am not suggesting any change whatsoever to aesthetics. Shield designs: same. Iconography, Sigils, Hieroglyphs: Ancient Nehekharan all the way. Same armor, helms, spear tip patterns, bows, etc. Identical equipment for the living and the dead.

That would be unique, possibly in an IP and trademarkable way. Everybody thinks that is what ~~GW Ltd~~ is all about.

    Just sayin'.

That's an interesting take. I prefer them the way they are currently, but I can see the appeal in your idea. I believe in the old pre-AoS fluff, there were actually TK cities that allowed living humans to reside within them. So there is some precedence supporting your idea.

I voted "No" but my real answer has a bit more to it. I'm pretty much of the same mind as Pendrake.

Will they re-release the old TK models? No, I don't think so. Even the "newer" ones like the Sphinx and snake surfers I don't see being put back into production. I think that at some point in the far far future Death as a whole will get a revamp. Probably bit by bit with multiple small factions getting new stuff, but I see Tomb Kings being reborn in a more Nagash/Mortarch aesthetic. Nagash and the Mortarchs combine the traditional Vampire Counts look with the Egyptian Tomb Kings style very well in a way that is very distinctly GW (in my opinion anyway). GW likes this. They like things they can whack a fancy name and a TM on. When we see the return of skeleton hordes of Nagash's Legions it will be less "Tomb Kings" and more "Toombe Kyngss"*. Something with familiar and recognisable origins, but new and different enough to be distinct from the skellies of old.

EDIT: * "Toombe Kyngss" due to my own lack of creativity, not intended as a criticism.

I think they should have done the other way round, got rid of the Vampire Counts and kept the Tomb Kings, as they could have easily asserted a TM on the Tomb Kings - at the time they were the only undead Egyptian skeletons/mummies/sphinx statues around, whereas every fantasy wargames company this side of Morrsleib have done undead minis similar to VC. It's only now that Games Workshop have actually got rid of TK that others have swooped in to nab the idea, specifically Mantic Games with their 'Empire of Dust' minis for Kings of War. If Games Workshop had kept TK and got rid of VC, they may well have been able to TM them.

    I quite like Sylvaneth....

Deathrattle on the other hand is a very hammy way to say "Skeleton". Sounds like something you'd call a low-tier trash enemy in a sketchy Zelda clone that's clearly a skeleton but has to be labelled as a "monster" due to the G rating.

    Fun fact:
Being completely new to the Warhammer scene, all of those names resonate surprisingly well with me. I like the sound of Seraphon, Sylvaneth and Deathrattle.
Lizardmen was ok (I would probably choose it over Seraphon, although just by a small margin), but "Tree people" or "Treekin" IMO woukd sound way worse than Sylvaneth, and "Skeleton Horde" would be OK for me (I like that they aren't Vampire Counts anymore because why should Skeletons only be following vampires? Doesn't make a lot of sense to me personally), but Deathrattle sounds more badass to me.
"Wanderers" vs "Wood elves". Meh. The latter one is the more descriptive one, but I don't mind the other one. Now calling Dwarves Dispossessed..... yeah, I could do without that one I guess.
Tomb kings.... sounds nice. And so does Mantic's "Empire of Dust" btw.

Deathrattle is just a keyword to identify a certain kind of units... the term "skeleton" is still there in many names.

I am also new to the Warhammer scene, and with one or two exceptions I'm pretty happy with all the names. I personally prefer it if each faction had a faction name, rather than just the name of the race. However, if the name of the race if sufficiently unique and cool, like Seraphon, Sylvaneth, Ironjawz and Greenskinz, I'm perfectly happy with that. Names that are that of the races but fairly generic and common in fantasy in general I'm not a fan on. Wood Elves is more boring and bland than Wanderers for me; I'd rather have Deathrattle over Skeleton Horde, Sylvaneth over Tree Kin or whatever, Soulblight I prefer to Vampire Lords, I prefer all the alternatives to Dark Elves etc. From the names I've heard of Warhammer Fantasy, I prefer pretty much all the Age of Sigmar equivalents. To be honest, though it might seem like blasphemy to some here, from what I've seen from Fantasy I prefer pretty much everything in Age of Sigmar to it. Before you start shouting heresy and breaking out the pitchforks and torches though, I haven't experienced too much of actual Fantasy, so I could have my mind changed. However, while it doesn't seem bad particularly, I have a strong feeling I will still prefer most of Sigmar to it.

The fluff of Oldhammer was far more rich than actual AoS, but names are just a thing that you become used to.

That's a point actually. I've read a couple of Oldhammer books and while I haven't read any Sigmar ones, the fluff does seem deeper and more expansive and richer. However, what I did read made it out that while it is a great fantasy universe and brilliant for books series, it doesn't meld and mix with the actual game as seemlessly as the Sigmar fluff. However, the books I have read wouldn't have been very good examples of that anyway, so to be honest I'm probably mostly in the dark in that. However, while it is richer and better quality (so far), I think I prefer what backstory I have seen in Sigmar to my admittedly limited knowledge of Oldhammer backstory

In an earlier Age There were living Nehekaran Pharoahs and humans that were contemporary to the Reman Empire? Is that correct?

...and then later [?]Nagash ...necromancy etc.
