    Hey everyone,

This weekend I plan on working on my models with my little brother. We were hoping to work towards a 2000 point army, and had two ideas. We were wondering which of these two you guys felt was the most competitive? We were hoping to mop the floor with some very high and mighty Chaos loving opponents! :D

    Army A

    Thunderquake 170
Engine of the Gods 220 (shield with -1 hit debuff)
    Bastiladon (Arc of Sotek) 280
    Bastiladon (Solar Engine) 280
Unit of 3 Salamander with handlers 160

Slann 260 (General, Vast intellect, resurrect item)
    Skink Priest with Trappings 80
    Skink Priest with Trappings 80

Unit of 40 Skinks 200 (Blowpipes, shields)
Unit of 40 Skinks 200 (blowpipes, shields)
Unit of 10 Skinks 60 (Javelings, shields)

    Total points cost: 1990

The tactic here is to use the two priests to give the reroll on wounds/saves, as well as the Hunter's steed, and buff the Bastiladon (Arc of Sotek) with Mystic Shield/Curse of Fates/Starlight, and let him charge in in the first round to keep them busy. Then in the second turn summon in my Engine of the gods with the buffs (and the debuff shield) so that the Thunderquake's Savage stance will give the Bastilladon the reroll on saves buff (as well as reroll on wounds). While I move in with my ranged firepower: my other Bastiladon, my 2 units of 40 Skinks, my Salamanders behind my 10 Skinks as a meatshield, and my 2 Priests for support. While my Slann stays in the back and uses Arcane Vassal to buff everyone from afar.

The downside however is that you have to deploy 7 times at least. So you will likely go second. However, you will have a tankier dual front.

    Army B

    Fangs of Sotek 100
Slann 260 (double teleport, resurrect item)
Oldblood on Carno 280 (-1 to hit item)
    Sunclaw: 130
    Sunblood 120
    40 Warriors 360
    40 Warriors 360
    10 Warriors 100
Skink Priest with Priestly Trappings 80
Skink Priest with Priestly Trappings 80
Skink Starpriest 80 (Prism with mortal wounds)
    Razordon 40

    Total points cost: 1990

The tactic here is to get the charge/save rerolls with the double Priest with Priestly Trappings, as well as the Hunter's steed/ Starlight/Mystic shield/Venom staff, then teleport one 40 Stack of Warriors and the Sunblood in and hope they make the charge. Since they likely start first, you should be able to charge in some grouped up units. Then in the second turn you get the Oldblood on Carno and the Skink Starpriest in (first buffed by the two Priests) for the debuffs and damage. While your other Warriors and the Priests and Slamander move to objectives and wait for possible teleports.

The downside is that they will be less tanky as the first Army.

    ----

Which army do you guys feel would be the strongest? And in the case of Army A, would you use the Bastiladon with Sotek to charge in? Or make it a Solor one as well because they might split up if you have to go on the second turn? Also for Army B, with regards to the 40 Warrior stacks, Spears or Clubs?

EDIT: I will use these builds, but then use two Bastilladons with a Solar Engine for Army A since you can reroll wound rolls with them :)

    About the first list:
Buffing an Ark of Sotek Bastiladon with rerolls to wounds is kinda pointless. His attacks (except his tail) don't do wound rolls. The save reroll is good though, I assume that's why you take that buff.
Not sure about the Salamanders, I'd probably use Razordons. But I guess that's personal bias.
I generally prefer the Solar Engine Bastiladon, since it profits from buffs a bit more and has greater range. The Ark of Sotek one is better against hordes though.

    About army B:
For the Warriors: Spears for big groups.
The list isn't THAT more squishy when you stack your buffs well (Starlight, Mystic Shield, Celestial Rites) and its offensive potential isn't bad at all with the extra attacks from the Sunclaw and the Serpent Staff to boot.
The lack of shooting might hurt you, but since you can teleport those Saurus it might work.

    EDIT:
I don't have enough experience with big Saurus armies to tell whether it is better than the other list though.

Okay thanks! I love Razordons more, but I feel I need Salamanders to compensate for our low rend. Or am I wrong in that?

Razordons get rend, too, when close to the enemy, but generally speaking: yes. Salamanders are better to punch through heavily armored enemies due to rend-2 and possible mortal wounds.

I have no tactical advice whatsoever, so I'd reccomend whatever looks cooler.

Alright, sounds like sound advice! :D

I like both builds equally, Army A for it's Tankyness and swarms of Skinks! And Army B because you can strike first and summon in a buffed Saurus Warriors Horde and your Oldblood to help rout even more. But I guess I could work on both and use which I feel like using at the time :)
