I saw this list on a youtube video "Unlocking Khorne" for GHB17 and thought to myself what actually would be a good counter to this list? I know some of our units get bonuses against Chaos Daemons... but is that really enough to rely on? I don't think so.

I'm aprehensive about three full units of 30 Bloodletters with lots of attacks causing mortal wounds on 5+6's and possilby even on 4 ups too.

What kind of list would you guys take against an army like this?

After Sayls' ability being changed, they are way more balanced than the silliness they were. You can kite them around while reducing their numbers to make them lose their bonuses !

Sayl the Faithless, a really mean fella that costed like 150points and could give fly and 30" movement to a unit per turn. Together with the extra movement and charge buffs you can imagine how that affected the opponents of mass bloodletters..

When I first played against him that I haven't really realised how it worked. I still placed my army to the back and when he gave me first turn I literally didn't move anything in front besides 1 Bastiladon.

On his turn he activated the combo on one of his blood letter blobs. After he charged them with the buffs and all, he did somewhere between 60 - 75 mortal wounds. I lost a Bastiladon, a skink priest, 30 warriors, my general ( Sunblood ), skink starpriest and another unit of 10warriors.

It was already over but just for the discussion, he still had 2 more of those units of bloodletters and 2 hellcannons and 3 more units of other things. So this is how I learnt what Sayl the Faithless was. Truly fun times !

He got balanced at GH2 though as did the 99% of the totally unbalanced stuff ! :D

Thank goodness haha so you think running from the letters is the best option?

Against such a list you could probably try and play Kroak, to snipe their heroes. And then some Guards or maybe Monsters.... let's see...

    - Kroak as General
    - EotG
    - Eternity Warden, Coronal Shield
    - Starpriest
    - Priest with Trappings, Prism of Amyntok
    - 3x Kroxigor
    - 10x Skinks with blowpipes and shields
    - 10x Skinks with blowpipes and shields
    - 10x Skinks with blowpipes and shields
    - Stegadon
    - Bastiladon
    - Thunderquake Starhost

    That's 2000 points.

Debuffing everyone with the Coronal Shield and the Starpriest's Starlight, Basti and Kroak do terrible damage on demons and Kroak can snipe the heros. Skinks as chaff and to ensure the Kroxigor's buff, and the Krox are pretty good anti-horde. Buff everyone with the Priest's trappings.

Alternatively you could play Kroak on a Vortex. Which is a bit of cheese because you could just teleport into their middle and kill everyone. If I see that correctly those demons are melee only so he cannot die.

This list for example, also exactly 2000 points:

    Allegiance: Seraphon
    Lord Kroak (450)
    - General
    Saurus Astrolith Bearer (160)
    Saurus Eternity Warden (140)
    - Artefact: Coronal Shield
    Skink Starpriest (80)
    Skink Priest (80)
    - Priestly Trappings
    - Artefact: Prism of Amyntok
    5 x Saurus Guard (100)
    5 x Saurus Guard (100)
    5 x Saurus Guard (100)
    Bastiladon (280)
    Bastiladon (280)
    Eternal Starhost (130)
    Balewind Vortex (100)

    Total: 2000/2000

Huddle up, snipe the enemy heros with Kroak, and debuff their battlelines to avoid them doing mortal wounds by using the Coronal Shield and Starlight. Buff the Guards and Bastis with Celestial Rites and mystic shield, and watch the Bastis tear through them with their rending attacks. With the Guards' banners they might even suffer from battleshock.

I like these two options! I have to say my eyes have definitely been opened recently as to the effectiveness of Kroak. I just bought a balewind vortex on Thurdsay so I will be keen to try it out ;)

You want to shoot the bloodletters til they're sub 20 then engage in melee. Bastiladons, cham skinks, razordons and kroak are all great at clearing out hordes. Once below 20 charge in Krox or temple guard and wipe out more of them, they only have a 5+ save and it's affected by rend for reasons unknown to me.

@skipperyoss good call! It at first seems daunting but then you only have to take out 11 from each battalion
