Which game systems do you currently use your lizzies for?

  1. 8th Edition

  2. 9th Age

  3. Age of Sigmar

  4. Kings of War (?)

  5. I only collect/paint Lizardmen

  6. I no longer use them/play other games now (What are you doing on this forum then you fiend!?)

    Hey guys,

Long time no see for me on this forum! I am sad to say that when AoS came out, I found my interest in the gaming side of my Lizardmen force draining, and as a result my interest in the collecting and painting of my lizzies also declined (my painting was barely in existence at this point, although I did paint one test skink). Due to this, my activity on the forum slowly tapered off to the point where until about a week ago, I hadn't visited in probably a little over a year, and even then I was only briefly checking up on things! My collecting of the mini's stopped, and my assembly line came to a sorrowful halt. :(

I took up 40k more at about this time (it was my secondary game before; I only had a small collection -- WFB 8th was my main game), and started a Skitarii/Adeptus Mechanicus army which has become quite large now! I later expanded upon my original 40k army, a small force of necrons I'd had for ages, which I felt were lacking in variety gameplay-wise in comparison to Ad Mech at the time I started them (plus Ad Mech look awesome! :D). I tried to play AoS several times across this period of time, and AoS skirmish when it came out, but its rules have never been much to my tastes. They have grown on me significantly over time though, as I was quite disappointed to see what had become of the game I loved.

As of right now, I don't think that my interest in fantasy and my beautiful lizzies will ever be as great as it was before the fall of 8th Edition. Having said that, my lizzies even now still hold a special place on my shelf, and I will look out for good deals on them periodically on Ebay and the like, which brings me closer to my point: Recently, I purchased some classic Lizardmen mini's off of Ebay for quite the steal! I found a box of Tichi-Huichi's Raiders opened but complete for only $25, along with two groups of 10x metal skinks with javelins and command group for $12 each! Everything unpainted and undamaged, minimal shipping costs. They arrived safely the other day, and looking at them I find myself left with an itch for 8th edition that I have not felt for a long time and can no longer satisfy, as I now know nothing of anyone who plays in my area.

I'd like to get more involved in Aos, hopefully play 8th Edtion again with people if possible, or maybe try 9th Age if that's more popular, although I always thought it lacked a certain flavor and character that 8th held. I have no knowledge of Kings of War, but perhaps that would be worth a look as well. I plan on looking around and trying to find people interested in 8th Ed or 9th Age near me soon, but I thought I'd check up on things here after all this time to see general interest levels in these games.

So tell me, which game systems do you use your lizzies for? Which is your favored system and why? In your opinion, how do 8th Ed and 9th Age stack up against each other? Do you have any advice which can help to relieve me of this itch?!?

    Welcome back!

In regards to your question, my hobby focus is purely on 8th edition and will continue to be for the foreseeable future. I don't get many games in, but I'm fortunate that my wife is willing to play. Either way, my mind set, army building and list building all revolve around 8th edition. I have no interest in any of the other game systems. I was briefly interested in T9A about a year ago, but I didn't like the direction they went in. In my opinion the game seems really bland in comparison to 8th edition. That said, I have not checked in on it for quite some time, so I can't really comment on their current state of affairs.

As for this forum, the majority of gaming discussion is focused on AoS, and sadly I can't see that changing. Still, I really like the community, so I stick around and take part in other discussions (and throw the odd jab at AoS when I can :troll:). There is a little bit of 8th edition discussion, but it is highly limited. Kings of War isn't very popular around these parts in terms of forum discussion and T9A is virtually non-existent (I'd imagine that T9A players have decided to stick with their dedicated website).

Glad to see that our 8th edition numbers have grown by one. If you love the game, don't give up on it. All you need to do is to find a single player in your area to revive it again. :)

Hey NIGHTBRINGER, thanks for your reply. I remember seeing you around quite a lot back when I used to stalk the forums daily, glad to see you're still active and around!

I'm glad to know that there are others still stuck on 8th like I am, and completely understand what you mean by the blandness of T9A up next to 8th Ed. Also, the new naming convention really throws me off. A Cuatl Lord? No no no, that is a "Slann Magwe Priest," obviously. ;) Hopefully we can get some more discussion going! Also, when you put it into perspective as only needing to find one person, it seems much less daunting a task, thanks for the input!

Welcome back, AOS is the main focus of game discussions but the painting blog is full of everything, over the past couple of months we have had a big input of primaris marines,@Ritual and myself are painting armies (Blood angels, Death watch and I'm doing Black Templars and Death guard) @Lord-Marcus has allsorts going on in his blog and numerous others are very active.

So you don't need to game to be active ;)

This is true. Lots of great work and inspiration being shared.

You forgot to mention that I painted a single model! :p (actually I'm almost finished a second one... pictures to follow shortly)
    Ahhhh... the good old days!

Definitely!!! I look forward to it. (I think people are getting sick of my Star Wars posts anyways)

Since I am rather new to the hobby I exclusively play AoS at the moment.
I was not fully happy with it earlier, but the GHB2017 fixed some more stuff and I like it.

I've not touched my lizards in ages, if I'm gonna play AoS I'll probably go towards my Fyreslayers/Collegiage mashup - but right now my focus is mainly on 40k and painting. Time limitedness means I can't fit in everything I want so I go for whatever is most exciting at the time!

This is how it is for me as well. No clubs. There was once a league...

This I know a little about. I have the books. The system looks smooth, the books are very well done and a pleasure to read:study.

The one thing I do know is that all the tournament level players (and all the Indy GT events within 200 miles of me) switched wholesale to Kings of War and abandoned AOS/GW.

What I am doing on this site is learning what I can about AoS or the state of the various Oldhammers. I am deciding Army by Army which game system it will be earmarked for. My lizards collection (most of which is uncommitted to bases) is a strong candidate to go AoS.

( :bag: Sorry @NIGHTBRINGER .... ...it's just that out of what I have collected up it is the one force that seems any good in AoS.)

Yes, I'd heard that the new GH made some good improvements, but I haven't really kept up with AoS very well, especially as of late. Could you perhaps expand on the things that the new handbook improved in your opinion, and maybe point me in the right direction to find where changes are talked about in more depth somewhere on this forum? I've been trying to decide whether it is worth diverting a portion of my hobby funds into lately but have been very busy with the new 40k edition!

Those fireslayer beasties do look quite attractive to me as well, but something seems odd about their proportions to me still. Maybe too mammalian for my tastes. That seems like quite an alliance though!

Now this sounds interesting to me, I've never seen kings of war in my area or heard of it being very popular online, so a large switch to KoW is intriguing. Perhaps I should do more research into the system.

Surprising to hear the diversity of armies and such in the painting blog! Perhaps I will have to start posting my progress as well, although I'm currently in school so little hobby progress will be made when I'm not on break.

I have to vote for the strictly "collecting" piece I am afraid, because I haven't actually played a game in years. I would maybe have voted form 8th, but in truth nearly all the games I have played were with this book:

My first experience in gaming was the old Skull Pass set from 7th Ed. I remember I split it with my brother because it was cheaper than the full BRB and he wanted the Orcs & Goblins in it to kick start his army. I never liked those hairy midgets they were paired with though, which is where my Lizardmen collecting began. :D Unfortunately, he dropped out of the hobby long ago because he didn't like the time/money sink or else I'd be set with someone to play 8th with again. Ironic that he was the one who introduced me to it and was much more into it than I at the time.
