I'm still hoping that they'll re-release the books, along with updated 8tb ed. Bretonnia, Skaven, and Beastmen books through their Specialist Games line. Basically, AoS is the primary game moving forward, but you can still play the old rank and file game if you so choose. I'd rebuild a second Lizardmen army on square bases if they did that, just so I could play it.

8th Edition can still easily be played... nothing needed on the part of GW. It's true that Bretonnia and Beastmen do suffer without an update. Skaven on the other hand is very powerful as is; they can easily go toe to toe with the stronger 8th edition armies.

A completed set of FAQs would be much appreciated, but it is astronomically unlikely that it will ever happen.

I love the fact that you finally can take the fight to all the other races. Taking the old world, with the lizzies or High Elves could be really fun! Also I know the map, for obvious reason, has to be cut, less Lustria, Naggaroth and Southlands, but that's acceptable; otherwise no CPU could run an entire turn :p
They have already announce a good bunch of DLC's, while most of them probably are lord packs, their might be a surprise among them, an undead surprise perhaps ;)

Looking forward to mortal empires, although I want to finish the vortex campaign a couple times before I dive into it. And I really don't have time to play computer games right now. Between job hunt, being a stay-at-home dad, and other stuff, I have very little me time. And what I have is usually split between computer games, painting, and actually playing miniatures and RPGs.

Anyone else getting screwed over by the vortex mechanic? I'm playing a kroq-gar campaign and so far the only rituals I've interfered with was clan mors as that's been the only one that's been even remotely near me. Pestilence, Tirion and Malekith are all in their own seperate corners of the world basicly unreachable for me. Making the only viable option to buy an intervention (which amounts to nothing since it's just an AI controlled army...) or send an army walking/swimming for 20+ turns just to even reach their territory. Especially Tirion is being ridiculous, the Guy's sitting on an heavily fortified ulthuan, with no enemies even remotely near him holding 30+ cities, which means he gains by far the most tablets. Now if it weren't for the tablets him turtling on Ultuan wouldn't be such an issue. But since he does get the tablets as well it is rather problematic... are we genuinly expected to just send armies all the way across continents to whoever is in the lead just to start screwing with their stuff, leaving ourselfs open to counter attack? The distance alone makes it a horrible idea.

On a sidenote, is it me or is the economy in this one even worse than usual? Apart from Kroq-gars ridiculously cheap saurus warriors all troops seems hellishly expensive to maintain.

Of course it all depends on the level of difficulty that you're playing, but I found that Ulthuan can be attacked if it isn't Lothern that is the immediate target. Start in Caledor and move on towards them, the fact that Tyrion simply rolls over everyone and thus as heaps of settlement isn't helping of course, but once you get a foothold on Ulthuan you can always wait til the next ritual and then strike, along side an intervention army or not; I haven't found them useful so far, either.

The Intervention armies seems to be made with the worse AI possible, they simply does nothing, at least when it's the one the player sends.

My main issue is mostly that ulthuan is across half the map and that I can't possibly afford to build an entire invasion force just to go annoy him while he's doing a ritual... and that's ignoring the fact that malekith is sitting in the other corner of the world pulling the same stunt. The only faction I've really been able to interfere with were the skaven cuz they were the only ones not on the other side ofthe world. Initially at least, now that I've destroyed clan mors they're again on the other side of the freaking map....

Which begs the question, what exactly are we supposed to do? Are we supposed to somehow fund an invasion towards all corners of the world and interfere with all of them (and at the same time build our own empire). Are we just supposed to conquer as much stuff as quickly as possible and pray the random missions that reward tablets are favorable (and not "go conquere this one city in the middle of enemy territory") so we somehow get in the lead? The idea behind the race to the vortex is fun, and especially defending your own empireis a lot more interesting while you channel. But so far I can't figure out how to reliably interfere with any of the others...
