I used water bases for mine too, although I did it in blue so as to be more like the sea. It's looking great so far, and I look forward to seeing what you'll come up with!

That is what I am hoping! I'll save the orange for characters.

    I am hoping so! :)

I'll be going for clear water, I want it to look like a flooded junglefloor. :D

I still want them to pop on the tabletop, but as I mentioned earlier, the orange was too much for a couple units.

They will also be easier to find in the dark ;P
Good colour though, I like it.

There is a slight possibility that I got sidetracked. Fine. It isn't even a possibility, it is a FACT! So, I've assembled a Saurus Oldblood on Carnosaur and the Saurus Warriors from a Start Collecting Box, and finally started experimenting on the water bases I've mentioned earlier.

    9.jpg
I've learnt from my misstakes, so the mount, the rider and the throne are seperate pieces until I've got them painted.

    8.jpg
I'll be using their spears, and those arms will be glued on later this week, but I think I'll keep their shield arms seperate and glue them on later, so I can get to the - otherwise - hard-to-reach places.

    10.jpg
I am crossing my fingers that this'll work, otherwise it's back to the drawing board!

So far, so good! There is one downside to the Vallejo Water Effect when using it in the quantities I want to use on the bases, and that is that it is taking forever to harden. Thankfully I started on ONE base, so I can learn for future reference!

    13.jpg
I started attaching a few spears and heads, and I am now pondering what to do to give the Alpha a bit more character. I've given him a polearm (I think that is what it is called, correct me if I am wrong), using a pole from the banner and a bit from one of the swords. I'm considering using a hobby knife to gouge a few scores into his crest and/or skin to make him look a bit more battle-hardened.

    14.jpg
A little close up of the drum, the polearm and the banner. I want to add something more to the banner, so I'll dwelve into my bits-box later to see what I can dig up!

I like it - always add a little extra detail if you can - that’s what sets a cool figure from an awesome one :)

That is why I love this hobby; you can kitbash to your hearts desire, and it'll be unique and varied!

    15.jpg
I've attached a few bits and pieces onto the drummer, the Alpha and the banner bearer. I won't be using the shield for the Saurus Scar-Veteran (I am probably going to get a seperate Carnosaur and model it as such later on), so my Saurus Warrior Alpha will wield it instead! I've also carved some gouges into the Alpha, around the tail and the crest, and I'll paint these red to represent scars/wounds later.

    16.jpg
I've had these for a year or two now, the one on the right just got a coat of paint on it as I ran out of paint a year or two ago when I first got them, and haven't been arsed to get a new one. Until now!

    17.jpg
And you've got to keep the carnivores separated from the herbivores! ;)

    EDIT:
    18.jpg
I was thinking of using the drums from the Saurus Knights as pauldrons for the Saurus Warrior drummer. Yay or nay?

The drums are a tad big, but they do look cool.

I was thinking so too, but I was on the fence about using them, so a second opinion was needed! :) I'll find something else to use as pauldrons!

You could always bulk out the model, then they wouldn’t look so dominating :)

I've been procrastinating, but I managed to put some paint on a model (finally), and I am now pondering wether or not I should paint the spikes on their backs a bone color, or if I should leave them as is and just paint the metal parts on the spikes.

    1.jpg 2.jpg
The two photos above are taken before applying a shade of Biel-Tan Green. I have played around with a number of different colour schemes now, and I've also tried different techniques, and I could just drybrush them and be done with it, but I wanted them to stand out a bit more and have a little more character. Hence, I came up with this. I am hoping that the shade will bind all the different greens (and the yellow) together.

    3.jpg
I have also settled for a little less time-consuming colour scheme for the shields; a sort of faded bronze. I'll use this on the banners and weapons as well as I am quite fond of it.

EDIT: Is there anyone out there who could give me a few pointers using Nihilakh Oxide. I might give it a go on the shields. Yay or nay?

Howdy, good colour scheme :) reminds me of Elmer the elephant (in a good way) - yes to the back spikes being coloured, if you are feeling brave maybe add a lighter shade to the chest as well?

Oxide is cool, use it kind of like a rust effect (its meant to be used in conjunction with a rust topper - orange, nurgle rot etc) but works ok on its own - it has a kind of textured finish to it - like an off brown lumpy feel, if also paint a bone colour on those shields spikes and the metal trim something slightly different (lighter/darker etc) just to make it stand out - rather than all one colour. But hey it’s uo to you :)

Thanks for the advice! I've put a basecoat of Ushabti Bone on the spikes of the Saurus Warrior and on the spikes on the shield as well and I've given the shield a wash of Nihilakh Oxide too.

I just might go for that lighter shade on the chest of the Saurus Warrior while I am at it. But for now I'll keep working on the spikes and the shield!

Be careful with Nihilakh Oxide, less is more you should just apply it sparingly and in the joints, around rivets etc.

I commend your application on the warrior, if your doing them all like that, that's a massive investment of effort and time ;)
