I am entered into local store tournament and as it's my first time out would like some feedback on the list I want to run. I think it's quite dependent on summons due to the low model count in an objective heavy game but has been hitting hard in casual games. Leaders Lord Kroak 450 Battalions Thunderquake 120 Engine of the old Gods 220 Bastilidon 280 Bastilidon 280 1 Salamander 40 3 Skink Handlers 40 Eternal Starhost 150 Eternity Warden 140 5 Suarus Guard (battleline) 90 5 Suarus Guard (battleline) 90 5 Suarus Guard (battleline) 90 Total 1990
Honestly, I don't like going double battalion unless it's utilizing the Dracothian's Tail or the Fangs of Sotek. Spending 260 points in Battalions just doesn't seem super efficient. Feels like you sacrifice too many bodies you need to sit on objectives, but to your point, summoning may help mitigate that. I'd try it out and see how it goes. 2.0 is so new, who knows what might be effective.
Pretty much agree with @Putzfrau . The list does have potential, against some armies it will be very strong. Armies with a good mortal wounds output will probably roll over you. So make sure you summon some chaff and a Starpriest (for debuffs on units that do mortal wounds on a 6+) early, and try to snipe wizards or whatever else there is doing mortal wounds.
I agree with both @Putzfrau & @Aginor on the double battalion theory. Saurus Guard are also not the impenetrable wall they once were due to the prevalence of mortal wounds now available to most high tier armies. You would likely be better off bringing a Balewind Vortex, Chromatic Cogs, and a Skink Starpriest (to summon Cogs for Kroak and debuff units). If you do bring the endless spells I would fill out your battleline taxes with cheap Skink units. Consider finding room for a Saurus Astrolith Bearer as well. Getting the +1 to cast if you need the Kroak mortal wound storm is helpful. However, choosing savage for your Thunderquake battle stance and then still getting to reroll all failed hits is real reason to bring this totem bearing saurus.
Do you think the no to double battalion is for all combinations? I'm looking at running thunder quake and shadow strike together
You can try running both but you need to get summoning right from the start to get more bodies on the table but I would go for one or the other but I don't play tournys.
The problem with running both at 2k is that you won't have much room to make shadowstrike shine. Ideally you want to have at least one 40 man unit of skinks and 6 Ripperdactyls to ensure a devastating first swing. You will also have to take a minimum unit of Razordons/Salamanders to make it all fit. Lastly, taking a single Razordon/Salamander makes the tax of taking handlers that much worse. @gmoney has a thread considering the same type of list. Here was the list I suggested if he wants to try it: - Allegiance: Seraphon LEADERS: Slann Starmaster (260) - General - Command Trait : Great Rememberer Saurus Astrolith Bearer (160) Engine of the Gods (220) Skink Starpriest (80) Units: 1 x Razordons (40) 3 x Skink Handlers (40) 10 x Skinks (60) -Boltspitters & Star Bucklers 10 x Skinks (60) -Boltspitters & Star Bucklers 10 x Skinks (60) -Boltspitters & Star Bucklers 3 x Ripperdactyl Riders (140) BEHEMOTHS: Bastiladon (280) Bastiladon (280) BATTALIONS: Thunderquake Starhost (120) Shadowstrike Starhost (180) TOTAL: 2000/2000 EXTRA COMMAND POINTS: 2 WOUNDS: 88 LEADERS: 4/6 BATTLELINES: 3 (3+) BEHEMOTHS: 3/4 ARTILLERY: 1/4 ARTEFACTS: 0/3 If you ran this list you would have a Four drop list. There are a number of realms you could chose for your army's origin and a few different paths you could take for artifacts. Hope this was helpful.
