Well another thread for the pile of threads I need to keep updated, about 5 now.
Finally decided on a name for the birds, known as Rourvuks, a mash of two names I got off a generator heh.
This thread will contain fluff and stories about these creatures. May include the odd drawing here and there, not sure really. Decided to post here because the Fluff section is more towards Lizardmen. Well enjoy!

The Rourvuk dwell in the dark areas of the lands, mainly cemeteries where they feast on corpses and gnaw on the bone marrow if flesh isn't left. They have an unusual hatred towards Nighthaunt, something about their ethereal appearance agitates them. Possible chances is because they can't feast on spirits all that well.

"The clattering of beaks, staring intently with their black eyes as if they were plotting on which part of the body to lunge at first. If you was to survive their onslaught and find shelter, their 'mothers' will happily greet you with a cold embrace, leaving you helpless to their so-called children!" - A travelling survivor.

I like it very much indeed - a chilling piece of starter lore for the army as a whole. I would also recommend that you start creating some unofficial rules for your birds if you’re intending to have them as a brand new faction - the Warscroll Maker I found for my Gloomforest Spawn is a good one to try.

By all means do so! I look forward to see what you come up with! You don’t need to have much time to come up with a basic initial idea for an army - you don’t necessarily need to think about what units you want to use yet, just have a think about the overall nature of the race you want to create. Is there a piece of AoS lore you like that you want to expand upon with your new faction? By all means base your army theme around that. Is there an existing race you’ve been thinking of customising to create your new race out of, i.e. as a separate branch? If you’ve got a good reason for your branch of the race separating from the official branch, I’m sure it will be plausible. Is there a completely different and unique race that exists in your mind’s eye that you want to put into the AoS world? Go for it! The possibilities are limitless really.

One main advantage that AoS lore has over Fantasy lore is that the Mortal Realms haven’t been fully explored yet and it is unlikely they ever will, which means it is likely that any unofficial race could exist given a valid reason that merges it with the existing canon as there is plenty of room for that race to be hidden away from the existing races until they are ‘discovered’ in lore. The Warhammer Fantasy world, on the other hand, had been completely explored by GW and apart from a few different human factions, all the main races had been covered by army books and minis, and there was very little room for any new races other than those untouched human factions. This may have been another reason why GW killed off Fantasy - the single planet created in the fluff had become a prison for the lore, which could no longer expand very much due to it being almost completely explored.

In any case, I would recommend just initially thinking in your head about what would be a truly badass new race in AoS, and then expand on that single idea.

I sort of came up with an idea for my ironjawz, like they are Seraphon hunters but I have not had the time to do anything with it yet.

@Lord Agragax of Lunaxoatl At the moment I'm running them as Flesh Eater Courts but I think they deserve a bit more ;) I can imagine the 'mothers' being healers when the children are within a certain range, for some fluff reasons. Can use the Flesh Eaters as a base and makes changes here and there.

@Deed525 You can do it! Writing notes help very well with coming up with ideas, looking at existing stuff also.

@Crowsfoot Very interesting! So the Ironjawz are capable of destroying the constellation/star forms of Seraphon?

This is when I kinda want to do these for AoP instead, a tad easier to paint because all models are mostly washes. There is that interest in them and it makes me that bit proud. The problem of having two ideas. Another of not managing time well, then I haven't been well so it stops progress.
Trying to think what to write next about them, maybe go through the individual units?

Here is the first bit of unit fluff, enjoy!

    Rourvuk Children-
The 'Children' as many call them, their true names are not known as all species in the race speak some strange garble, then why would one try to communicate with one anyway. They only see most as food, they claw, bite with their beaks and attempt to hit with either rocks or pieces of bone.
There have been sightings of these crooked creatures in villages at night, apparently stealing food and clothes. It baffles many really, as their diet is only meat and bone and they have been spotted running off with apples. More worse scenario that they maybe linked to missing people, some
do come back to tell their tales if they can but others do not.

Haha, yeah. I totally see Orruks of any sort (but especially Bonesplitterz) hunting Seraphon because of the challenge.
In fact my buddy @Mesandres took up that idea and painted the cloak of his Wurrgog Prophet so it looks like it is made out of several Skink skins!

When I get around to it ;) No problem, can't wait to see what you come up with

Now question for all, how would one feel about humans with the Rourvuk?

Depends on ‘how human’ And what their role would be :D

I think I’ve come up with a pretty cool idea (my brains all full of crazy) my issue would be balancing them into a usable/fun/stable but not overwhelming army - without making it too easy of course :D

P.s I also really like your concept art :) I like to think I’m pretty good at drawing but it’s mostly cartoon style stuff (and my backwards thumb) makes it really hard to hold a pen/pencil for long.

If I posted you a few ideas - would you be up for making more real for me :)?

Well a few hints, she was seen by the Rourvuk (mainly the King) as special. Due to some reasons, especially how the many humans are taken in as slaves/food

Also many thanks, well my style is more on the border between cartoon and realistic, just put that bit more of the effort towards realistic this time.
Hmmmm, maybe, it's all getting the time. I could when I get the time to do sketches, the problem when juggling multiple things :joyful:

Lol yeah I’m in the same boat - way way too many projects all at once + stupid hours of work.

(As we speak I’m making small plants for my basti base and filling in gaps on my guards - while thinking of concepts for a new faction/race lol

Yep, and years ago I only walked into the store because I saw a dragon. Here I am now painting a bunch of models and writing stories about them
