Really great looking work, but the underside of that mortis engine was probably my favorite! :wideyed::artist:

Also liked your razordons. Only thing I never cared for about the model themselves (aside from the relatively static pose) was the little gold piece nailed to their snouts... :shifty:

Not sure but he turned up on Christmas, so... maybe I guess?

Wow, it has been more than a month since my last post here again.

Today I finished my Mortis Engine, except its base. It has been... quite the experience to paint. So many details. And very fragile.
...and the paint job I chose (not going for the pure ghost look but to make it fit my Deathrattle army) hasn't made it easier.

Here are a few pictures. I am pretty happy with the result.

    Glorious!
The Ethereal version is a bit more impressive at first sight but feels very ordinary after a couple of seconds.
Your style lets you appreciate all the details of the model, and give a very nice 'feel' of what a Mortis Engine, what ever it is, should be.

Looks lovely! I like that you didn't just go full spectral with the ghost and skeletal host!

    Thanks, guys!
Yeah, at times it felt as if it would never end. I am not exactly the quickest painter in the world, and even though I cut a few corners (not much highlighting or corrosion) there are a LOT of details there.
The cool thing about the many details is that you can look at the model for a while and discover all the little things.

Nice job, I think you need to get that base done to fully appreciate the actual model.

What's the plan, graveyard or rubble?

Your right about it being fragile, those bloody spirits are a complete pain in the ass :D

Nice to see your thumb has healed ;)

My plan is a bit of rubble, maybe a fallen grave stone, and then covered in snow to fit the winter theme of my undead army.

I am still wearing my brace most of the day and I still cannot put too much pressure on the thumb, but it has gotten a lot better so painting is OK. Shaking color bottles or cutting sprues however can still hurt so I am a bit more careful with that.

Super impressive! I’ll definitely be cribbing inspiration from you when I start on my own engine that’s sitting in the paint queue.

    Great work matey!

I’ve had one kicking around for years - never plucked up the nerve to put it together let alone paint it !

    Fun fact:
Originally my buddy wanted to build and paint it (it was part of his Start Collecting box) but then these things happened:
    - he realized the model doesn't fit the army he wanted to build (Nighthaunt) despite kinda looking like it, missing the keywords and so on.
    - he opened the box, looked at the sprues, noticed all the thin, fragile bits and thought: "screw this, it would drive me insane" so he put it on a shelf.
    - the Legions of Nagash book was released and we noticed that _my_ army could use it.

So I gave him, like, 20 bucks or so, and got this nice model that was only taking up space at his house. Everybody wins!

Nothing to show right now, but I just noticed that I joined the forum exactly two years ago! :)

My activity has slowed down a bit, mainly because of real life stuff, but I expect an increase in Warhammer related stuff in the near future, so stay tuned. :)

Mortis Engine looks like a ....nightmare to paint. :p

It blows my mind the thing doesn't just collapse in on itself. Such a tall model yet held by such small little sections. Does it wobble a lot when it's moved around the board? At the GW store they had nighthaunt on display, I noticed most of their models were stable but the executioner guy (with the hangman's noose attached to his body) was very wobbly when I picked him up by his base.

It is a lot more stable than it looks like, in fact it hardly wobbles at all when properly built. A brilliantly designed model. Whoever came up with that sculpt did a great job.
