Hey guys, so we are playing a 1500 points 3v3 game, 3 new Seraphon players against 3 veteran chaos players. My allies are scared, but I want to go for the win. Two are playing Slaanesh, one mainly having Hellstriders and 40 Chaos Knights as his main force, the other with daemonnettes and big chariot. The third player is going to play Khorne, hounds, karanar, bloodcrushers. Unfortunately, I don't have their exact list, but it's going to be something like that. Also, between us three, we only have one Slann, and we don't own any salamanders or razordons, but could get some if necessary... I really need some advice here. I was thinking one going FoS, another Shadowstrike and I don't know about the third. Baiting his army with the Slann could be an option, since they will probably go for the kill as soon as possible. I'm a noob player, so I figured I should ask you guys for advice to show these overconfident chaos slaves the real power of the stars. What do you think? Help!
Thank you, wizard, it's absolutely awesome to always count with your wisdom. I put up the following lists as per other threads on LO, I would love some advice on them! Realm: Ulgu Leaders Slann Starmaster (260) - General - Trait: Great Rememberer - Artefact: Miasmatic Blade Oldblood on Carnosaur (260) - Artefact: Doppelganger Cloak Saurus Sunblood (120) - Betrayer's Crown Skink Starpriest (80) Battleline 40 x Saurus Warriors (360) - Clubs or spears? 10 x Saurus Warriors (100) - Clubs 10 x Saurus Warriors (100) - Clubs Battalions Fangs of Sotek (70) Sunclaw Starhost (130) Total: 1480 / 1500 ________ Realm: Ghur Leaders Skink Starpriest (80) - General - Trait: Cunning - Artefact: Gryph-feather Charm Engine of the Gods (220) - Artefact: Prism of Amyntok Skink Priest (80) - Priestly Trappings Battleline 30 x Skinks (180) - Boltspitters & Star Bucklers 20 x Skinks (120) - Meteoric Javelins & Star Bucklers 10 x Skinks (60) - Meteoric Javelins & Star Bucklers Units 6 x Ripperdactyl Riders (280) Behemoths Bastiladon (280) Battalions Shadowstrike Starhost (180) Total: 1480 / 1500 ____________ Realm: Ulgu Leaders Slann Starmaster (260) (one can just buy it) - General - Trait: Great Rememberer - Artefact: Miasmatic Blade Saurus Eternity Warden (140) (could protect both Slann) - Artefact: Incandescent restrices Battleline 10 x Skinks (60) - Boltspitters & Star Bucklers 10 x Skinks (60) - Meteoric Javelins & Star Bucklers 10 x Skinks (60) - Meteoric Javelins & Star Bucklers Artillery 1 x Razordon (40) Units 3 x Skink Handlers (40) Behemoths 1 x Troglodon 2 x Bastiladon (560) Battalions Thunderquake Starhost (120) Total: 1500 / 1500
A sunclaw host will wreck havoc on his daemons, especially if you can distract him with other troops and get the drop on him. Against daemons a minimum sized unit of sunclaw saurus warriors can put out ~10 wounds per turn fairly reliably even without external buffs, which is way beyond what anyone ever expects them to and can end up ruining their day fairly easily. I'd tone down on the skinks. Or at least not take any big units of skinks. They're going to be decimated the moment they get into combat anyway, their only purpose is to buy your other stuff time to pick apart their armies piecemeal.
All three of those list are solid. Somethings that might have gone overlooked though: Consider Chameleon Skinks in the Shadowstrike Starhost (check out their Star Venom Rule) Summon the Eternity Warden instead of listing it. (worth losing the artifact slot) This will let you bring more Razordons Master of the Star Rituals is imho better than Cunning for the Starpriest. You won't need the standard Priest then and can bring two Razordons One of your three list should find room for an Astrolith Bearer. Thunderquake is apocalyptic with re-rolls to hit.
Immense thanks!! Love the advices and I made some changes to fit them! What do you think? Also, if anyone has the amazing will to answer some questions for a noob (and any other that sees this thread, if any), I would really love to know your opinion: - What do you think the 40 saurus unit should carry, clubs or spears? And how do you think I should protect them from being destroyed too early? - What models do you think we should have for summons? - Who should focus what? I'm guessing sunclaw for daemonnettes and hounds, thunderquake for chivalry and seekers, shadowstrike for casters and important backline enemy models? - If a flying unit is behind a wall, does the entire board count as within its line of sight? (Kind of generic, but Google wasn't very clear to me) Realm: Ulgu Leaders Slann Starmaster (260) - General - Trait: Great Rememberer - Artefact: Miasmatic Blade Oldblood on Carnosaur (260) - Artefact: Doppelganger Cloak Saurus Sunblood (120) - Betrayer's Crown Skink Starpriest (80) Battleline 40 x Saurus Warriors (360) - ? 10 x Saurus Warriors (100) - Clubs 10 x Saurus Warriors (100) - Clubs Battalions Fangs of Sotek (70) Sunclaw Starhost (130) Total: 1480 / 1500 ________ Realm: Ghur Leaders Skink Starpriest (80) - General - Trait: Master of Star Rituals - Artefact: Gryph-feather Charm Engine of the Gods (220) - Artefact: Prism of Amyntok Saurus Astrolith Bearer (160) - Artefact: Incandescent Rectrices Battleline 10 x Skinks (60) - Boltspitters & Star Bucklers 10 x Skinks (60) - Boltspitters & Star Bucklers 10 x Skinks (60) - Boltspitters & Star Bucklers Units 6 x Ripperdactyl Riders (280) 5 x Chameleon Skinks (120) Behemoths 1 x Bastiladon (280) Battalions Shadowstrike Starhost (180) Total: 1500 / 1500 ____________ Realm: Ulgu Leaders Slann Starmaster (260) - General - Trait: Great Rememberer - Artefact: Miasmatic Blade Battleline 10 x Skinks (60) - Boltspitters & Star Bucklers 10 x Skinks (60) - Boltspitters & Star Bucklers 10 x Skinks (60) - Boltspitters & Star Bucklers Artillery 4 x Razordon (160) Units 3 x Skink Handlers (40) Behemoths 1 x Troglodon (160) 2 x Bastiladon (560) Battalions Thunderquake Starhost (120) Total: 1480 / 1500
One of the Slaanesh players is the manager of the store and will have a full converted army. He also wants us all to paint our entire armies before we play so I think it will be pretty epic
Those list are looking tuned. Best of luck in your game. Will you guys be playing Triumph & Treachery in teams or how will turn sequence and such work? I prefer spears on a 40x unit of Saurus Warriors. One of the better ways to keep them safe is to play a bit slower with them until your desired target gets within threat range. Slaneesh are crazy fast. So this might require your allies tying them up with Skinks while you Warriors get in position. Skinks EotGs Razordons/Salamanders Ripperdactyls (if you can summon turn one with an EotGs) Terradons Chameleon Skinks Bastiladons Your teams Shadowstrike Player will need to find a decent unit to deploy his Rippers into. They should be quite capable of killing off a big unit of Demonettes or Bloodthirsters. With luck he can avoid any retaliation by wiping the unit. If the rest of your team is able to then protect or assist his Rippers and keep them alive a few turns then you should be able to deal with demons pretty quickly. Thunderquake can simply focus fire on things like Exalted Greater Demons, Seeker Chariots, and.or any other large threats you don't want to fight. The Fangs of Sotek should try to hang back and plug holes as needed. To get the best results out of the Battalion you will want to have your warriors at full strength when they are selected to pile in. Similiar to Shadowstrike the Saurus Warriors will need to be supported to keep them at the 30x bonuses. Line of sight in Aos is always true line of sight. Fly doesn't interact with line of sight unless it is specifically detailed in the individual terrain rules.
If you're afraid you won't be able to keep your 40 man horde alive for long it might be worth considering fielding 3 units of 20. At that size they will no longer have a giant bullseye painted on them but are still going to be a massive threat for daemons. If your opponent isn't carefull they can end up easily wiping out a unit or two before he realizes just how much damage they can do. And with 2 slann, some rippers & some big dinosaurs walking around he'l probably ignore them at the start. You're basicly playing the one scenario where this is possible, fighting an army mostly consisting of daemons. So don't expect them to hold up against his mortal troops
Awesome help, you guys, and the lists are inspired from other posts where you two replied as well, so... INFINITE THANKS!! Playing with 20 warriors units sounds like a good idea, but that would mean an extra 40 points of cost, and I can't afford it unless I take the Starpriest away from the FoS. Do you think it might be worth it? If not, I'll take my chances and just make a skink screen to protect them until I see a chance to charge them in. Everything will happen very fast no doubt, so I'll try to practice as much as I can to get the positioning right! I don't know how we are going to handle turns yet, the idea of the game was thrown a few days ago, and it might take some time before we do it since they want to do a full painted battle (depending on how motivated the others are, but everyone seem to be totally into it).
Having the Star Priest for Summon Starlight on your large units of Saurus Warriors seems more valuable to me. That being said, I am doubtful that your opponents will have any shooting. This means It will be easier to keep 2 or more of the 20x Saurus Warriors at their 20 buff until they reach combat. Both of these choices are valid approaches to FoS. However, take clubs in a unit if you are under 30x.
I see that 2 of those 3 lists are 1480/1500 pts. Spectacular. If you can put your hands upon Endless spells, consider 2 Quicksilver swords… those things melt daemons and cost only 20 pts.
