Ok it seems I don't get the joke.
What makes you excited about that?
It only says Age of Sigmar, which is to be expected isn't it? GW only has those two main products. I don't get it...

I dont thinkt there is a joke. Just confirmation that there is another preview at warhammer fest. Which could preview us, hopefully!

Every preview that isn’t us increases the chance the next will be us. Process of elimination is the old ones plan.

    Ok, fair enough!
I just thought I was missing something, because to me the news was the equivalent of someone entering the room shouting "Abe Lincoln is dead!". :D

Well, I still have hope for the return of Settra and Tombs Kings so one of my best friends can play AoS with us (It's been his army since it first appeared and he refuses to play any other army).

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but that question was asked a few times at adepticon. It was at first turned down as a "nope" then ignored twice more. The only chance he has is an updated battletome with nothing new probably or a new original army that has similarities or lore from tomb kings.

Well, that sucks. But it was expected.

But that is something i said in the survey, that they could give rules and points to old armies so they can still be played in matched play. I mean, I don't ask for a full battletome with new units, just those old units adapted to AoS matched play so people that have them could use them from time to time, especially since people that played tomb kings since the beginning already have children and just play a game a a month, or not even that. It would be something like "good will" to let them play with "official" rules and points and not having to rely on community or house rules and points.

I mean, the old dwarves use the dispossesed points and rules, the old imperium miniatures have some rules and points... but bretonnia and tomb kings don't.

So just to make myself clear, I just want everyone to be able to play with their toys, even if they are old and dusty.

I wonder why they have kicked Tomb Kings... along with Lizardmen and Skaven it's probably their third most unique non-typical-fantasy-trope army from WFB. Weird of them to dump in when it seems part of their move was to get away from generic fantasy stuff...

Probably too much similarity with regular undead. I mean, a significant part of their roster is essentially "skeletons, but with fancy egyptian hats".

Also, the genuine interesting stuff can easily be integrated into a general undead army. Two out of 4 mortarchs are tomb kings. Though why they didn't include more of the unique stuff (possibly in an adapted form) is anyones guess..

I agree that Tomb Kings probably felt too similar, especially with the fluff of AoS, where there's just one undead realm and Nagash is god-king of all of it. But, I also think GW is trying to move away from pseudo-real world looks for their various fantasy armies. Which might be one more reason why Tomb Kings got the shelf.

I wouldn't be surprised if egyptian themed stuff is also relativly hard to copyright. Stuff like a spinx, an anubis statue gollemn, or mummies are all fairly common in various mediums. And there's only so many variations you can make on those, especially as long as it needs to be kept egyptian-ish.

Also everything that's properly unique can also be made as a "regular" undeath monstrousity by removing the egyptian motive. I mean using the roster in TW as a basis (since I don't know enough about the models) there's only a handfull of models that are genuinly unique to them as a faction and would be weird without the egyptian motive (e.g. the necrospinx would be a tad weird without egyptian motives being a sphinx and all that), everything else can be summerized as "X, but it wears an egyptian hat"

In the meantime, there's the Battletome preview for Slaanesh

all the recent releases for AoS are HEAVILY oriented toward exclusive CC.

Not a pleasant direction for my tastes. I like more equilibrium, a balance between shooting and melee.

I like the deprevity point mechanics. They do seem to finally be figuring out how to make generating summoning points interesting while staying vaguely balanced.

They are a bit heavy on crowd control effects though with locus of diversion. That ability alone is going to ruin a lot of people's day. Especially since it just says "at the end of the charge phase", so you can't even count on getting in first during your own turn when facing Slaanesh. Combined with them being monsters in close combat it is going to make them a pain to fight with certain armies.

The focus on close combat does mean shooting itself becomes more valuable though, if your opponent is massivly powerfull in melee you'l want to witle them down. And shooting in general I guess is relativly difficult to balance. The advantage that comes with having more range than the other guy is just very powerfull even if your gun isn't all that impressive.

Also, in fairness the last 3 tomes were Khorne, Slaanesh & fyreslayers. None of those are exactly known for bringing a lot of (long) ranged firepower. It's not like they released an high aelve or wood aelve faction with a heavy melee focus.

    AHHHH!

Pretty sure we just got our confirmation for a Battletome.

The new episode of StormCast (the podcast) just came out as an interview of Jess Bickham (head of studio for Age of Sigmar) and at 48 minutes he stated "New Battletomes for every existing faction, and of course new factions as well."

EDIT: It's actually at 48 mins in the podcast

Unfortunately no timeframes, just confirmation that all current factions will be getting a new/updated one. At the beginning of the podcast this interview was dated as being before all the recent announcements.

Also, something I learned in this podcast was the GW Studio was split into a dedicated W40K team and a dedicated AoS team, and both have expanded significantly very recently. The reason stated that they have so many projects in the pipeline at the moment that this was done to better organize and focus on those projects.

I'm hoping that this means we're going to see consistent content throughout 2019 and beyond, instead of one year being W40K and the next being AoS.

White Dwarf preview for May's issue:

    upload_2019-4-22_14-17-2.png

Thin tea for the sick-hearted, but no discussion on AoS Summoning can occur in earnest without mentioning Seraphon. And should the discussion include his thoughts on summoning - i.e. what worked and what could be improved: clues could certainly be gleaned about how GW feels about the current Seraphon summoning mechanic and perhaps even what direction it may go should it be changed.

    edited for clarity.
