Thanks :) I think the little bit of crimson wash around their faces, hands and feet really brings them to life.

I love your creativity in using wash colors I’d never have thought to use, like the use of green and red washes in your orcs here. I’ve had mixed to poor success using an airbrush so far, but seeing your work makes me want to take another crack at it.

Thank you and thanks for the like bomb :) I have 30 more Orruks lined up for painting so in an attempt to speed things up I'm going to try mixing some crimson and green oil paints together for an oil wash. I did some precise GW washes for the test group of Arrowboyz but I want to find a faster method. :)

Getting started on my Boars! I was going to finish my Arrowboyz but I'm not sure if I will actually continue to use them in my list. I love my Boarboys though so I want to get them painted. Initial airbrush work on Boar's body. 4-5 types of browns, faded to black. I'll do the base coats for the face with airbrush, seal it, then do some washes and dry brushing. Thinking i'll do some black hair at the top to balance it out.

You shold definitely give it another go. The biggest hurdle is learning to thin your paints and knowing how to keep it clean during use. Once you master those 2 things it's a breeze!

Slowly working on my boars. Black on top and on the bottom. The black will look better when he is based.

    Shiny!

Do you plan to matte varnish or drybrush him at the end of the process?

Both :) I did a gloss varnish before I washed the fur so I wouldn't lose all my airbrush transitions. I'm going to do some drybrushing highlights on the fur, highlight the tusks, hooves and then matt varnish them. They are almost finished! Then after I put on the riders, I'll do some matching warpaint to tie the rider and the boar together.

Oh, so the gloss varnish was to protect parts of the miniature or to make wash more in control? Can't wait to see the result of dry-brushing on this boar :).

Yep. Airbrushing goes on super thin so it protects it from chipping off as you dry brush, but the main reason was to break up the surface tension so the wash runs into the crevices and doesn't stain the surface. Basically it doesn't ruin all the blending you just did with your airbrush :)

    BLOG UPDATE:

The more I play with my Splitterz the more I'm leaning towards a combined force in the Big Waaghhh. But I'm a big fan of the Savages Orruks and to be honest, the Ardboyz and Gore-Gruntas are not my favorite models.

I've had the idea to convert some of my Savages into Ardboyz using Seraphon Guard bits. I'm going to use their skull helmets, and actual skulls, as helmets/armor for my savages. I'll use the Guard shields on my boyz and extra bone/scales as additional armor. Maybe I'll green stuff some cloaks made from left over scales from my Saurus warriors. It will be like the Savages recently faught Seraphon and armored some of their units with their enemies corpses and weaponry.

I really hate the giant faced Gore Grunta models. A lot. So instead I'm going to have a unit of 6 Dinoboyz. I'm going to mix up Saurus Knight Cold Ones and some older OOP Cold Ones that I have and put two of them on each 90x52 base with 2 Orruk Riders. Some of the riders will be holding shields, while others carry the weapons. 2 Riders per base actually matches the Gore Grunta profiles pretty well so as long as it looks cool I think it should be okay.

Finally I'll make a Ironjawz Warchanter using some of the extra bitz I compiled for my custom Saurus AB.

Looking forward to combining my two loves into one army, even if it means cutting up some Saurus :( :)

I had to order most of the bitz internationally so it will take awhile but I'm excited!!! I'm not a great converted or greenstuff person so it will be a new challenge!

    @Joshua Horchler

I think you should do a small tutorial on your airbrush setup, I think that might help people understand more about how you achieve your finished look and help those that are not familiar with airbrushing.

That's not a bad idea! I actually feel like I have pretty inefficient setup in terms of my desk, mainly because it's also my gaming station, but I think I could share more about how I approach my airbrushing sessions, prep, color changes, and cleaning.

Next airbrushing session I'll take some pictures and notes!
