    Hey there,

I just finished a game where I was using this battalion. It felt a little broken to drop a ton of rippers and do a crap ton of damage so I want to clarify something to see if I unintentionally cheated.

At the start of my first hero phase, with the rippers in the sky, can I still place my blot toad? Or does it not happen because units not on the field cant use their abilities?

Thanks for your help on this, want to make sure I'm not doing it incorrectly

You still place the toad. The Rippers only have to be a part of your army. So if they are paid for and in your list then they are part of your army. Additionally when you summon a unit it is added to your army. So, if you summon Ripperdactyls in your first hero phase then you can also place a bloat toad for the summoned unit.

Ah ok, I wasnt sure. It feels like its VERY broken or is it just me? If you have a unit of rippers you are doing insane wounds. Just being able to get them into 3 feels rough. How would you even play against it?

You counter play with deployment. Also, it is far less scary then say the Hearthguard Berserk bombs or Plague Monk Spam. The fact the Ripperdactyls have no rend make it much more balanced. None of this is to say the battalion isn't good though. There is a reason I use it in all my tournaments.

I really like the battalion, you can really clear off a big threat early on. Just feel like it might be rough playing against it! Anyway, thanks for clearing that up for me, now I can drop blot toads to my hearts content!

It's not broken at all: it's a one trick battalion that is strong, but also got some really weak points:
    1) toads are slow, so you can effectively pick your target only in T1, because after that point the opponent can simply move away.
    2) turing T1, it's fairly easy to screen the core models of an army with cheap, disposable screen units, thus negating the threat and forcing you to go toward less juicy targets.
    3) with no rend, some units are simply too hard to kill.
    4) don't even think to go against something that can attack before than you. Which is becoming a thing too common for my tastes.

This! Tyring to alphastrike Eels before they biovaultic shock or attack anything in the locus on Slaanesh range will not go well.

also means our battalion should get an update in the book that lets them drop with in 3" charge right away, and then fight as if they were in the combat phase, but not be allowed to fight again that turn. make it a dive bomb assault that triggers combat out of phase like... here we are walking along and BAM BEAKS FROM HEAVEN CLAWS FROM HELL WHY AM I DEAD!

    All,

to be sure as I have seen contradictory answers to this on different fora :

Can or cannot an 'engine of the gods' be picked as the 'priest' slot in a shadowstrike ?

An Engines of the Gods can not be chosen as the priest slot for Shadowstrike Starhost.

CANNOT. the reason being is the Priest word in the battalion is NOT BOLD. which means its specific and not a KEYWORD. if it were than any model with both keywords SKINK and PRIEST could meet the requirement.
