Where is the rule that says the horde can wrap around a smaller unit? Don’t see that in the BRB...

Ah, sorry that was someone else.

I’m with you on the named characters. The only one I think IS worth it is Tetto.

It doesn't. Sorry for the confusion. A couple of editions ago the wrap around WAS something units could do in subsequent rounds of combat to increase their attacks on the enemy(it was called "Lapping Round" in the 6th ed. and was removed in the 7th Ed.). After this was removed from the game, the 8th Ed. introduced the Horde rule as a formation that would thematically accomplish the same thing, but in a more game-friendly mechanic. Again, sorry for causing the confusion.

No worries matey, although am a little disappointed that my vision of a saurus horde enveloping a CW unit isn't going to come true... ;)

To be honest, that 'lapping' mechanic actually a lot more thematic and makes more sense than the Horde Rule, as it really helps to envision the idea of a swirling melee with warriors from the different units intermingled with each other, yet it doesn't force players to build massive units just to make them competitive so much (making large units would help to achieve this, but a unit of 10 men in a single 10x1 line would be able to lap round a unit of 20 in a 5x4 square for example), but I can see how GW decided to eliminate this as it must have caused havoc with movement trays ;)

I would certainly be interested if GW decided to bring it back, as that would really make close combats fun and would hark back to the 'Pile In' mechanics of 8th 40K and AoS, which would make TOW easier for players of those games to learn.

They do look largely the same, but the two things that interested me were:
    • A full map of Norsca with lots of descriptions like Bretonnia and the Empire - this could just be for the purposes of Warriors if Chaos, but could it mean a fully playable Norse faction, like in Warhammer: Total War (complete with Chaos War Mammoth)?
    • The four shield symbols in that video - each seems to be the coat of arms of an Emperor of the Empire, so is TOW going to be set at some point before the other editions of Fantasy, when the Empire was even less unified than usual? Certainly there was an Age of the Three Emperors in existing lore, but four? They’d have to work to explain that in the canon...

I played Chaos Dwarfs right from their introduction. Hobgoblin backstabbers (sneaky gitz) had an automatic lap around after the first round of combat. And not just to the sides. If you had enough of them, you could lap around to the rear thus encircling the enemy unit. And with two attacks each because of twin daggers, if you survived the first round of combat they would generally win. I always went with a unit of at least 21+. Great fun.

Were there 6th Edition Chaos Dwarf Rules that facilitated this, or was this in their old 4th Edition book?

I think it was in the old 4th edition, but it may have followed through in the Ravening Hordes which is what CD went by in 6

I’d imagine that it would be in the Ravening Hordes Book, as I’ve found no mention of lapping round in 4th Edition.

Yeah, I just read the article! I have never been inspired to collect Empire, but that whole Kislev, Russian-esque themed army is awesome.

    Providing TOW isn't a total PO'S, they'll be a candidate for me.

The concept arts look very cool.

Reminds me much of 'the Golden compass' though:

Nice-looking concept art, pity it's going to be wasted on Forge World miniatures.

Me neither. With how quiet it here sadly is outside of the AoS pages, i would love some more spoilers. 9th edition 40K is what GW's focus is on now, which is quite reasonable i guess.
