If you don’t play Slann and want to focus more on melee, which item should you choose between:

    - cube of darkness

    - wand of jet for +1 dispel (and eventually earth rod)

    - 2 dispel scrolls (and eventually earth rod)

There are even other combination of course as ruby ring and dispel scroll but I’ll gonna to play him defensively

I think generally you just take.. no magic items on a Skink Priest. I only like Skink Priests on Stegs, and then i would go for Battle Magic Assailment Signature spell and a 5+ ward item. More boys less toys!

Yeah but remember if you play just one he can’t dispel in melee

One thing to try is going with 2xSkink Priests on Ancient Stegadons /w Engine of the gods.
One with Cube of Darkness to get that crucial dispel off and turn off bothersome remains in play spells.

This gives you decent casting with 2x +3 modifier and okayish magic defence, while still being focused on smashing through the enemy lines.

I thought about that build but will cost a lot. You cannot cast spells in melee and neither dispel. You can only move to shoot magic missile. So if i'll try this build i'll probably just use one on a stegadon and the other one on ground.

Yeah of course, but still, it gives you some sort of dispel. As a small addition to what i said before, i have noticed that i do like the Earthing Rod on him as getting to dodge a wound on him is kinda ok and pretty worth it for if you roll 2-6 on a dispel if you have 5 points left. I am still not sure if the Rod is better than a Skink, but i could see it. Playing it more and more i have disliked going a ward on the Priest as he can get it with Oaken Shield, i rather have the Talisman and even the Glyph Necklace on the 2 other big monsters you have in your 1000 point character allotment in 2K.

Definitely Cube of Darkness + Hammerhand.

I've been shocked at how good this is at running forward into cover or behind an impassable, being in dispel range to Turn 2 block most dangerous spell and wipe any early Pillars, etc. and then emerge outside enemy dispel bubble or directly charge enemy wizard, turning off dispel, and Hammerhanding.

It's a big investment, but without a Slann (or sometimes with one for Arcane Vassal), this has been incredibly effective. I find magic to not be game changing but the wrong spell at the wrong time can turn games and to be able to spend 110 to stop just that has been good.

Would you play it on foot? I have really difficult to play it on foot, stegadon is nice but costly.

I'm definitely playing it on foot. Because its role is to just be able to Dispel firstly, then attack, and maybe Arcane Vassal, you can march it and hide it without losing any effectiveness. 110pts is expensive, but it's been good so far. I would automatically include it without a Slann.

I don't mind the Stegadon mount to make it a character and have a few extra wounds, but it does cost a lot. If Burning Alignment was better it could be worth it at a starting price of 290 that's more than the Slann (290) or ScarVet Carnie (260). I think if we're optimising for tournament play maybe that's where you'd begin but if you think there's a chance of a non-Slann build I'd give the Lvl 1 'dispel caddy' a go :).
