I do not like the kroxigor models. They are kind of ugly and not plastic. A friend of mine bought a Karybdis Dark Elf model and when I saw the extra hydra heads I said "wow, those would make great kroxigor heads", so he very generously gave them to me. Well, I still need bodies. Has anyone tried converting a Minotaur unit into a kroxigor unit? UPDATE 6/09/2014
I haven't tried anything like that but the heads do seem fitting. The hard part would be making sure that the heads are proportional to the body. Got any friends that have Beastmen/Minotaurs to just hold the head against it? Needless to say converting them would be alot of work, but seems doable in my opinion.
It will be a pain to get rid of all the fur. I am converting my Cold Ones into feral zombie Cold Ones for my VC army and the saddles took me forever to remove. My 17 conversions took me two exacto knife blades, four band-aids to finish, and many hours of work. The idea sounds promising, just go into it aware of what you are going to have to do.
For the fur I plan on building up, not filing down. The chest fur will become an armor plate, the arm hair will be part of the wrist bracer, the leg fur will either be armor or scales (depending on how good I am doing with scales) possibly even fur leggings. I was thinking I could skimp on scales to make it more like the skink's than the saurus' scales. I may have to add a little bit more to the feet for claws. No one at the store I play at runs beastmen (I will actually have to have them special order it because they just don't carry beastmen stuff). But looking online it is looking like the head should work, it might be a little large, but the body is so disproportionate to itself that I think no one would notice. Advice is greatly appreciated, and if I do this, it will be posted in the next 6 weeks or so (projects have to wait till vacations as teaching takes up a lot of my time the rest of the year)
Maybe instead of minotaurs, have you thought about plastic river trolls and make some kind of swamp kroxigors ?
http://www.lustria-online.com/threads/my-carnosaur-lord-and-now-painting-log.3940/ this guy made a convertion from a island of blood rat ogre pretty amazingly, I suppose a similar conversion would be possible with the regular ones.
Good ideas. I might use the swamp trolls on another 3 to make them different. They are a bit too overweight for me to want all my kroxigor like that. I would have to build onto their arms as well, the tiny upper arm bothers me. For the ratogre, the kroxigor's arms and forward slouch aren't what I am looking for either. Knowing I can green stuff a kroxigor head over the minotaur head does help. I also like that his scales are bigger than the normal kroxigor scales. Stubby tail doesn't look bad either. Thanks for linking the pics, that will help. Can't decide whether to turn the back mane on a minotaur into spines or a sail.
Update: I have added pictures of the conversion. It is looking good, I know there are some fingerprints on it I missed, and I still need to put scales on the other side, cover his 4 fingers with 3 and build up lizard claws over the hooves. Any additional advice?
Looking good so far. My only small misgiving is the five fingered hands. It would probably be very hard to remove a digit cleanly, so you probably are better off running with five fingered Kroxigor.
I have to be honest -- I don't like them. The current plastic Minotaurs are easily some of the ugliest models GW has ever made. The poses are static, and the musculature is completely unnatural. You are starting from a bad place trying to use them for anything. And then there are the problems that they have fur and too many fingers/toes. As mush as you may not like the regular Krox models, I think you should stick with them.
I like the current kroxigors... the models may be the only reason I would ocnsider using them again (after their abysmal performance last game)
Well, to each their own. I added greenstuff to make their hands appropriate, a little greenstuff turns the claw looking hoof into a proper clawed foot. Overall I am really happy with the kroxitaurs. The swamp trolls were too fat, same with ogres, I do not like the kroxigor finecast models, so I am glad the miniature with hydra heads worked well for my tastes. The fur on the chest became scales, the weird muscles on the back are covered in scales, the horn became a good tail and the fur on the bracers will be skaven pelts they wear.
I really like the Hydra heads on the Minotaur bodies... I think it works well and looks very lizard-like. The chest scales look cool too. I would like to see how you've green stuffed the new lizard-y feet and claws!
