Hardy, with all respect for your decision, would you have taken the same stand if 9th Age was produced by GW as 9th Edition?
(I know its a used question)
Had it been a "Officialy" made, people would be more inclined to accept "direction" as you put it.
What is it exactly you dont like? Remember you can affect that direction!
I have already had my voice be heard a couple of times :)

Whatever it is you dont like, is it really worse than playing a "dead game" ?
Eat a few camels and have the fun you can have :D

    thaaaaaaaaaaaat MIGHT be coming :D

Because fluff of 9th has to be written new cause it's not a gw product I think that the points b-d are weaker than the other two. I didn't mean to say it should not be taken into consideration...

The "need" comes from popular opinion. Technically we don't need anything, we just want things. When polled on what additions Lizardmen players would like to see added, a Krox hero was an overwhelming favorite.

No one says that the guy has to be a genius. But I can easily envision a spawning (or simply a very long lived Kroxigor) that is slightly more intelligent than his peers.

The fluff will be slightly rewritten. It would be incredible easy to just note that eveyr once in a while a "sacred" kroxigor spawns with increased intelligence. I'm hoping that the Committee will consider making Nakai a lord choice when the time comes. It would make sense considering the kroxigor hero and further establish that there are these very rare intelligent kroxigors. Or well not downright intelligent, but smarter than the others haha.

It'll be impossible to satisfy all players. Some will give zero fvcks for fluff and others want it to go back to the roots. It's a diverse hobby with many different people and some are here for different reasons. Others will just want to paint models and not care about neither fluff nor game.

What if the Kroxigor spawn-kin weren't regular skinks but chameleon skinks, maybe no smarter, but could definitely be harder to shoot at, more efficient killers as you might hear them, but you'll never see them coming!

    @Pinktaco

So how far along is the committee with the army book (rules/fluff/art)?

    #2 Sneak Peak

It wasn't hard to add the following, but it was hard to ignore the other option we had. We all wanted the Skink Raptor Riders and this could especially be seen on your votes and the Votes on Lustria Online! But unfortunately circumstances dictates that they will not be part of this update. However, they're still very much on the minds of the Committee and various ways to add them in a future update have been suggested.

As a part of making Slann-less builds viable there was a greater need for a Skink High Priest. This in return allow us for a greater diversity when creating lists and give us something else than always auto-including the Slann because he used to be the only lvl 4 wizard.

    Skink High Priest
    M6|WS2|BS3|S3|T3|W3|I4|A1|Ld7
Cold-blooded, Scaly Skin 6+, Strider (water), Magic Beacon
Magic: Level 3 Wizard. Generate spells from Path of Beasts, Heavens, Light or Life.

    Options:
    • May become a Level 4 wizard
    • May take Magic Items:Up to 100 pts
    • May take a mount (one choice only)
    • Skink Palanquin [may take any options]
    • Triceratops [may take any options]
    • Threehorn [may take any options]
    • Alpha Pteranodon
    Skink Palanquin
    Special Rule: Palanquin (50x50mm)
    Options:
May get Plaque of the Snake God (only available if no Anurid High Priest is in the army)
May switch Base Size to 40x40mm free

    Plaque of the Snake God
    Bearer’s unit has Hatred.

The Palanquin allow the skink to be placed in the secon rank of a unit.

They've discussed the current draft with two different members of the rules team, each individually. So now they've changed according to their feedback and are planning a skype conference with the rest of the Rules Team (end of this week/start next), from there it's a matter of fixing spelling errors etc.

Personally I do not like that a Skink Priest can become a level 4. Since this muddy the waters regarding our lore for the Slann.

Suddenly a Skink Priest is basically "as good" with magic as the Slann.

So with that in mind, I think I would accept them to only be able to go to level 3. Though as I said, thinking purely fluff now.

Will be interesting to see the entire army composition, and try to play a few games.

That's true, but from a gameplay perspective people would choose the Slann over a lvl 3 priest. Fluff-wise it's an iffy situation, but then again the slann have access to all 8 BRB lores and Disciplines so he's still vastly superior. :)

I don't understand why everybody seems to think that a skink priest is weak and why it's impossible for him being lvl4.

Lvl4 is okay for a human? An Ogre? A skav? A beastman? An ork? And worst of all it's okay with a goblin?!

    Why not a skink?

    That is pretty good progress!

My sentiments exactly. I would absolutely HATE to see a level 4 skink priest.

its very nice i think....about the lvl 4 predicament, a clear disticntion betven a slann and a skink has to be made, and not just about acces to lores, i think the weak slann that we have now and this skink lord really doesnt fit the fluff. the slann has to be quite more poverfull or this skink has to be lvl 3, or both...

and i agree with the peopple that say "yeah but there's a lvl 4 goblin", you are right, but we need to make our own fluff logical, and then compare it to other army fluff...

Some of the opinions being mentioned here seem rather ridiculous. Skinks being level 4 is logical and balanced compared to every other army. The reason it makes the slaan feel weak is because they -are- weak, which is why I have said before they should be level 5. Also, most other armies have a ws5 t4 w2 bsb. Our leadership is already a strong point thanks to coldblooded, giving us a bsb with the staying power, and killing power, equal or greater to some other armies' lords sounds way too OTT. There is also a difference between re-writing fluff and making your own fluff. As much as I appreciate the effort that people are puttin into this new game, and I'm sure many will enjoy it, it is just becoming that - a new game. Not warhammer. Which is why I'm leaning away from it. I played for the fluff and models and rules. Messing up one will ruin it for me.

Truth be told the lvl4 upgrade was something the Rules Team wanted. It was originally supposed to just be lvl 3. Since the same concerns are raised on the other forum I'll forward it to the committee.

I for one am very happy with the skink high priest! But...
Just as the others say, there are 2 options I think fluff wise it could fit and the current one is not.
    1. You have the skink high priest max lvl 3.
    2. You bump up a Slann to lvl 5.

Maybe you can add a third option: Slann's lvl 4 with the option of getting lvl 5 (the elder of their kind).

But again.. I'm very happy about this change.

The palanquin... well I'm happy with this aswell, yet tetto is a lot less special now.. maybe if he had some special palanquin to even that out.

I'm for the option of Slanns lvl 5. Less disciplines can balance that out and ofcourse pointwise he will need to see a change then.

For the ones that are really hard against thus change.. you can always choose not to use them... and claiming that fluff doesn't fit at all, well I think seeing less Slann is oke if you think about it. Their haven't been Slann spawnings since the Old Ones left and many of them have died so... that makes a bit sense does it not?

Slann will not be bumped to lvl 5. That is a complete no-go in the current state. Trust me. With the current disciplines we don't want to push our luck any further ;)

That's too bad... when magic gets hit and it needed to get hit, who suffers the most? The best casters.. so only that fact, not looking at antything else made our Slann less powerfull against other mages. I can see why they would be against a lvl 5 though. Just a shame :)

Does that mean it is not totally unrealistic to hope for Lv 5 Slanns in the future?
