Nothing like opening a parcel and seeing the thing you loved staring back at you (I should really stop wrapping the wife up)
Had some time to chekc your pics on PC right now (economy lesson! ) really like your Oxyotl! and im looking forward to see the skink chief... need som inspiration for mine!
So it took a while but I finished my saurus unit and hero. Sometimes its hard to stay motivated and they've never been the most appealing unit in the lizardmen range. Here are some closeup pics of my old blood and one of the overall unit. I decided I'd tie them to the troglodon through the standard, painted in similar colours and the eyes taken off. As is tradition the bases still need work, think I might try one of the texture paints and see how that goes...
Real nice colors. I love how they work together, but I already said that... Any ideas how will you base them? Something fancy or the normal stuff? Really like your clean painting!
The colors do go really well together. Great looking models so far. My only suggestion (and this is being very critical) is to add a different color, or shade, to the scales to give the models more contrast. Amazing work so far!
I have to admit I've never really gotten into anything too fancy for basing, when I was younger a coat of goblin green was all I'd really do. I'm thinking of buying one of the citadel texture paints and trying it out on them.If I like the effect I might keep it up for more models if not they can just be their own thing and I can try something else out another time. I decided I wanted the magenta's to get more attention without overwhelming the models. So in the end I kept the contrasts on the rest of the scales low. It's still there but I agree it is much lower contrast then many paint schemes I've seen.
Very nice painting and very coherent colours, that works out pretty well as for @mousekiller 's idea, I may have another suggestion: @Acrocanth if you do feel like your scheme has lower contrast than usual on miniatures and it's a problem (which also depends on how far you want/like them to be seen from…), have you considered simply adding some highlights to the bronze/brass parts? i guess that could give them a little bit more contrast but not too much. Anyway your painting is pretty refined, enjoyed looking at the minis so please keep em coming!
@Toltecatl There is some metal highlighting I just don't think my cell phone camera likes the metal paints that much . I'm pretty happy with how they turned out, I just know that there is limited contast between the teal skin and the blue scales but it was a choice I made. I think my next project will be some of my old archer skinks while I think over colour schemes for my other minis. I keep coming back to this garter snake ( http://s3-ec.buzzfed.com/static/enhanced/web04/2012/2/26/2/enhanced-buzz-11512-1330241031-80.jpg ) and I think I'll probably riff on it again for my first batch of archers. It was previously some of the inspiration on the old Tenehuini model I posted earlier and I think I want to dabble in that space again. My poison arrow frog (http://kids.nationalgeographic.com/...phibians/H-P/poison-dart-frog-orange-blue.jpg) skink handlers didn't quite come out how I'd hoped but that would be a similar space to consider dabbling in. Probably work on a couple prototypes in the near future, might also post some of my more modern skinks at some point.
my bad, cameras are def no loving friends of metal paint ^^ as i said they look awesome this way (and you have awesome precision) so kudos..
Old grade school work goes in red crested skinks come out... Should probably have stripped them if I was being a proper painter... but paint, wash, highlights gets enough of the detail and my hundred or so skinks don't call for too much fanciness so much as an assembly line of acceptable quality.
Just a little update on my skinks they are mustering nicely. Nothing too fancy but still some decent work I think. Something different then what most people are up to anyway
Let's worry about the bows, quivers, arrows eyes, command etc before I worry about the bases. I do have some Lustria undergrowth in the mail I'm going to try when it gets in.
