Hi guys, First time poster (apart from the introductory forum) so be kind. I wanted to put my army list up here for some comments and criticism. First though, I want to explain the background thinking for this. I don't like building my armies simply to win games and tournaments, rather I build an army to include units that I want to include, mostly just because I think they are cool. So then, why ask for an army list review? Well, in this case I have a theme for my army that I want to follow, but within that theme, I still want to optimise the list to be the best it can be. So, my theme is an all-Saurus based army list, with the exception of some Skink Priests (so please, no trying to convince me to take Skinks instead, this is my theme and I'm sticking to it!) My initial thoughts for this was because the Saurus are the dedicated military units of the Lizardmen, whereas the Skinks are more like civilian militia - not spawned to be soldiers primarily, and so I wanted to create an army to reflect this. I am still looking for some interesting background story - I initially thought basing it in the Southlands (I know, I know, Saurus from the Southlands and all that) due to the fact that one of my good mates recently started a Tomb Kings army, but I'm also considering the Dragon Isles, Albion or some of the more exotic areas of undiscovered jungle. Anyway, enough chat, let's get to the point - the army list! Lord Oldblood on Carnosaur (466) - Light Armour, Shield, Blade of Revered Tzunki and Glyph Necklace. Heroes Scar Veteran (153) - Battle Standard Bearer, Light Armour, Shield, Horned One. Skink Priest (150) - Level 2 Wizard, Diadem of Power, Dispel Scroll. Skink Priest on Engine of the Gods (440) - Level 2 Wizard, 2x Dispell Scrolls. Core Saurus Regiment (258) - 19 Saurus with spears and full command. Saurus Regiment (144) - 12 Saurus with spears. Saurus Regiment (144) - 12 Saurus with spears. Special Kroxigor (240) - 4 Kroxigor, inc Kroxigor Ancient Total: 1995 I have found that this army (or at least, one quite similar) has sufficient anti-magic capability to deal with most average armies (i.e. not super magic heavy armies), and have been impressed with the resilience of the Saurus warriors. I am a little unsure about the Horned One however, and might drop that and have him on foot (with that lovelly standard bearer model!) Any advice and c&c welcome, as long as it's constructive please, and within my theme. Thanks in advance!
er... not a whole lot of saurus for an "all saurus army" it's really got a lot of "thunder lizard" in it. If you wanted to go with all saurus, (and get crazy comp while your at it) just run like 4 groups of 20 saurus and roll out. Put a scar vet in each unit and flatten people with saurus beat down. That's what I think of when I think of "all saurus".
Was this sarcasm, or do you really like him??? An all saurus army is an interesting idea, I have heard of all-skink armies before but not all-saurus. Reminds me of WoC (as in no archers) However, as donkey said, it isn't really all-saurus (especially with an EOTG). My suggestions are the same as his: a group of great big saurus units led by scar-vets.
Yea for the price of that engine you could get 30 more saurus and still have some 80 pts left over....Now THAT is some saurus power!!!! not to mention a great comp score and serious flexibility. Or maybe 15 saurus and a big unit of cold one cavalry??
Here are 4 Saurus heroes that would work in this kind of army. OB on Cold One - LA, SH, Blade of Realities, 6+ ward Stays with the blocks and moves between them until he sees something really juicy like a hydra or any vampire toy (black coach anyone?) Scar Vet on Cold One - LA, SH, Sword of Might, War Drum of Xahutec This guy will help keep units mobile that are trying to get down the enemy's flank. Most likely a saurus cav unit, str 6 lets him dish it out. Scar Vet – LA, Enchanted Shield, Burning Blade of Chotec A hard core fighter, move him into the saurus block that will be facing down the high armor save enemy troops. Cold one is always an option but stupidity can always rear its ugly head. Scar Vet – LA, SH, GW, Venom of the Firefly Frog Another great fighter, this one is your chariot buster. The great part about the venom is he can still get his parry bonus using hand weapon and shield. This guy moves toward the block that will be facing off against a large beast or a chariot.
All saurus eh? Cool. I tried the same thing when first building a list with the new rules. Eventually, I realized it's a pretty difficult thing to do. Keep the Engine and give it a d.scroll and the diadem, save two power dice, and you'll have enough magic much needed magic defense. Take it no matter what. Trust me. Without any magic defence your all saurus army will get owned in the magic phase. For the rest of the character slots listen to Caneghem, he made a great comp of vets you could field. Make at least one a BSB. Since your list is laking saurus warriors take out the carnosaur. I know it is fun, but in your list it is not necessary. Also I would recommend using any Krox. They die fast and can easily be nurfed by any experienced player. Save those points for terradons so you can takeout fast cav units and other small this that your slow saurus can catch.
