8th Ed. List Ideas against Skaven

    Hey there, I have a 2000-2500 point game against a skaven player in the next few days, and while I have seen plenty of batreps and skaven players on the internet, I have never played one myself. I have access to pretty much everything in the Lizardmen roster and expect to face pretty much anything a skaven player can throw at me. Doomwheels, Abominations, plaguemonks, stormvermin, ratling gunners, gutterrunners, cannons, etc. I planned on bringing a slaan, either high magic or deliberations, a few big dinos, maybe a scar vet on carnosaur, a salamander or 2, some saurus blocks, skinks, pretty standard stuff, but I was wondering if anyone could suggest some things that are all around effective against skaven in general. I know without knowing exactly what I am up against makes this difficult but just some general good things to include would be helpful! Thanks!

    Salamanders !
    Carnasaurs, Stegadons, Kroxigor, Coldones, Terradons !
    some skinks lots of Saurus, Slann, Saurus heroes.
    these are all good choices.

    Use masses skinks to take out his big monsters,
    monsters and Saurus to take out is masses of Skaven
    use magic and terradons to take out is weapon teams.

    and try not to get your units surrounded and use the terrain to your advantage.

    Thanks so much for the tips! The game is tomorrow and so far I have put together a potential 2000 point list. I think it definitely needs some tweaking though so any comments or critique is welcome. A few of the wonky things in here are meant to avoid or mitigate things that usually happen to me pretty often, like really poor rolling and the like. The list is as follows:

    Lords:
    Slaan BSB/General w/lore of high magic, Becalming Cogitation, Focus of Mystery, Harmonic Convergence, Standard of Discipline and channeling staff (debating soul of stone as well to help with miscasts)-445

    Heroes:
    Scar-Vet on Carnosaur w/Loping Stride, Enchanted Shield, and Sword of Striking. (Usually go Sword of Might but often he hasnt been hitting well so trying to hit on 2s if not 3s all the time). -335

    Skink Priest w/lore of beasts and dispel scroll- 90

    Core:
    Block of 30 Saurus Warriors FC w/HW/Shield-360

    10 Skink Skirmishers w/Javelin/Shield- 70

    10 Skink Skirmishers w/Javelin/Shield- 70

    Special:
    Stegadon w/sharpened horns (wanted to spring for the ancient but probably cant unless we go 2500 points)- 235

    Block of 20 TG FC- 310

    Rare:
    Salamander w/extra handler- 84

    Total- 1999 points

    Plan is pretty similar to what you said, scar vet and stegadon run around trying to get flank charges, with scar vet going for war machines, doomwheel maybe if I can get a flank. Skinks go for an abomination, rat ogres, or the gunners, anything pretty big and scary. Saurus tie up skaven blocks that have hopefully been whittled down a bit by the salamander, while the Slaan uses soul quench to take out chaff, buffs with hand of glory, maybe uses tempest once to switch out for something like iceshard blizzard or wyssans, and potentially goes for a miscast fiery convocation on big blocks of rats. Skink Priest goes with the chaff and is just a scroll caddy/arcane vassal for Slaan. I know the whole, "dont take a slaan with high magic in a TG bunker, take wandering deliberations instead" but every time I have tried that it just hasnt gone well, even in bad magic phases getting a clutch hand of glory off or a big soul quench can be huge, while trying to get a bunch of little low cast value spells off usually just leaves my opponent able to easily stop all my magic unless I get an unlucky miscast on 2 or 3 dice. Let me know any improvements I can make, if we go to 2500 I am hoping to get an extra salamander or ancient stegadon as well as another block of saurus with spears in there. Debating kroxigor but usually they die quickly unless I get a flank with them and terradons, while I know they are good, I have never used them so feel like I shouldnt try them for this game.
