    Hello,
on an eBay frenzy and found a book a mate gave me...turns out it’s a promo edition of these rules from wayland games.
How playable would kow be with my age of sigmar models on their round (gasp!) bases?
Armies I have are double set of aelf from spite of dawn along with big dragon, bolt throwers etc, stormcast, a smallish sylvaneth force, and some other order bits and pieces. Also a bunch of green skins and grots which I’m in the middle of building, 2k+ of khorne 3k+ of skaven and obviously a load of lizards.
I literally just have the gamer edition book, what else I need to have a game? any help much appreciated. If I need to get a stack more stuff I’ll bung it on eBay for a couple of quid.

    Thank you

    WELCOME TO KOW!!

In KoW models don't go individually but in movement trays of specific sizes, so you can literally put your round based models on those trays and start playing!! For competitive events there is a set minimum number of models you need to have in each tray depending on its size to be legal but in friendly games you can do as you and your opponent want.

By the sounds of it it seems you already have:

    - A pretty sizeable Elves army (Elves plus Sylvaneth)
    - An Ogre army with Basilean allies (I use my Stormcast as Ogres in KoW, size is bang on and the list fits weirdly well)
    - A Salamander army of course (Lizardmen)
    - A Goblin or Orc army or maybe both! You can always ally goblins with Orcs or vice-versa
    - A Ratkin Army (those sneaky skavens)
    - If thoe Khorne dudes are demons you have an Abyssals army and if they are warriors you have a Varangur army

You all of a sudden have at least 6 armies to play with!!

The only thing you need really are the correct size trays, but you can cut those out of cardboard, or have them laser cut out of MDF for you, plenty of people do that for very cheap (less than a quid a tray)

The gamers edition book wont have all of the armies in it, most of them are in the Uncharted Empires book that was created to accommodate old Fantasy armies into kow. BUT you don't have to buy it, just use http://kow2.easyarmy.com/ all the armies are there with the stats and special rules listed.

That should be enough to get you into the game, so nothing really.

Apart from that Mantic has released a book for competitive gaming, think of it as the Generals Handbook, it does the same job (In fact Mantic released their version a year before GW started doing the same). Rebalancing, new scenarios, new magic items, spells, units and formations. It's called Clash of Kings, each year has it's own but you only have to buy the last one, the hilariously referred to as: CoK '18

But once again you don't really NEED it, using this link:

    http://kow2.easyarmy.com/clash-of-kings-2018.aspx

gets you access to all of that, maybe some rules will refer you to the book but if you ask I can quote them for you and after a while you will memorize it anyway. That being said I think Battlescribe has the full rule descriptions anyway, so use that if you have it.

Quick reply....thank you guys @Itepixcauh @Crowsfoot .....lot to digest so let me cogitate for a while. Got a bit to read!

Something I’ve mentioned before on here is that I stick my models on acetate rectangles with double sided tape (skinks, clan rats etc) to make it easier to deploy them so this isn’t too far a stretch for a quick start and then if I like it I can get the trays.

I’ll talk to my more tactical gaming mate who I play and see what he thinks. He’s not a fan of seraphon’s new found super powers against his (now impotent) rats and I just want to play anything!

He will be happy then, Ratkin can be very scary indeed. One thing you will realise is that the balance in KoW is EXTREMELY good, the best I've ever seen in my years of gaming and it's improving year by year thanks to the CoK action

It's a very long running joke in the KoW community, we are just like little kids moving plastic soldiers around with our CoKs out.

    :p

I’m above such immature things of course. Smutty schoolboy humour....
I might have issues with measuring distances in the various phases....these posts will be titled *12” - CoK*

If you are going to multibase (and I highly recommend it - both for easier handling on the battlefield and for the modelling opportunities), Warbases (https://warbases.co.uk/?product=premier-bases-kow) have a range of bases cut to the right measurements for every size of unit there is in Kings of War.
