Going to my first tournament in a few weeks and painting up my skinks and curious how many are recommended to have ready if I am taking 3x10 battle line, how many do I need for summoning Rest of the list is a standard thunder quake and astrolith and slann

I would bring at least 20.
And remember to also bring something else. For two reasons:
    - if you have lots of models to choose from people will not know what you will summon and thus cannot prepare so well
    - if you run out of Skinks because those on the table won't die, you can summon something else
    - you have tactical options in case you see an opportunity. Sometimes a Troglodon, three Terradons, two Razordons or a Starpriest can really save the day.

Maybe 40 are necessary. Sounds possible that the EotG could do it on its on without any CP

If you run Thunder Quake and 30 Skinks for your battleline then you will probably want at least another box. 20-40 is the norm for summoning. The weakness of the Thunderquake is that the Battalion needs to stack in order to be at its most effective. This means you often have to use the LoSaT on your Saurus Astrolith Bearer to move him without lifting his banner leaving you with only one teleport, provided you took Great Remember. To compensate I recommend having some Chameleon Skinks to summon, and let your opponent see them. Often times it will force players to divert reinforcements onto objectives.

I think with the new FAQ, the banner has no longer his lift/plant thing.

The errata only mentions changes to Celestial Conduit and not to Proud Defiance (which is mostly what you need it for in a Thunderquake). Most tournaments will house rule it in some fashion if they are aware of it.

Are you sure? There is not written how to plant IT. So in that case the house rule should just let him run

The argument is that he has the totem keyword and totems are know to be planted. Since proud defiance in the text says "while the Astrolith is planted..." some house rules still require it, others say proud defiance no longer works until addressed by GW, and some just house rule that it no longer needs to be planted. This is something GW needs to address. Seraphon, like many 1st ed AoS armies, could use an updated battletome.

Painting skinks is a drain on my soul. I can only paint like 2 a day before getting bored. But yes 20-40 (3 boxes to be safe) is the norm.

I have a total of 120 skinks, and even if I just use 3x10 for battleline, I usually bring the rest of them anyway! Never know when that Engine of the Gods will go mad pumping out skinks :p

I've summoned 40 skinks by turn 2 between my EoTG going off once and two 10 mans with the Slann.

IMO i'd have at least 40, but would feel more comfortable with 60.
