After a 16 year break from Warhammer I've now returned. Since I played Lizardmen in the 5th, 6th and 7th edition of WHFB, I opted for Seraphon yet again. I started out with 2 SC boxes and a couple of Steggies to compliment what I already have. Here I will show my progress as I build, kitbash and paint minis. I've used the guide on how to make the most out of the SC boxes, but made some adaptations of my own. First out is my Starpriest/Priest kitbash, my Scar Vet on CO kitbash and my WIP Astrolith Kitbash/model.
Looks good. To make a few observations/suggestions: 1. In future, paint the riders separate from the cold ones. It's much easier to get all the details. Aka sub assemblies are great. 2. How is that skink attached to the Rock? 3. How do you intend to base your army?
Thanks for the suggestions. I can add that all CO and riders are magnetized so that should not be a problem during painting. The skink is just glued to the rock with Loctite superglue. The rock it self is attached to the base with a hot glue-gun. As for baseing, I'm thinking of keeping it real simple with PVC glue and fine sand and then add some static grass before I prime and paint.
My first painted mini in 16 years. Just testing my thoughts on the color scheme. Never done edge-highlights before. Also looking for suggestions on the metal armor and metal blade on the spear. I feel gold or bronze will “crash” with the yellow?
The color test looks good, @Audvin. Are you using GW colors? If so, would you mind telling what you used for the skin (Rakarth Flesh)? I have a similar question/situation. I'm planning on painting a Dracothian's Tail scheme on my Seraphon. I think a deeper gold or bronze color would still stand out on the yellow spines. Maybe a standard steel color for the blade? Or you could do the blue/steel, purple/steel that GW does sometimes. I look forward to seeing more.
On the flesh I used Rakarth Flesh, then shaded with Athonian Camoshade and drybrushed with Krieg Khaki
Thanks for all the kind words. It’s actually the Cold One scheme from the front of the SC box. And the yellow is from the 5th edition armybook. I also just saw that Crowsfoot used the yellow on his latest army and I loved it. Now I just need to decided on the metal plate and weapons so I can buy those colors. I have no metallic colors and no blacks and browns as of yet.
Oof, I can't agree more. I assembled my first batch of Knights without sub-assemblies and that is the main reason I haven't painted them yet. Painting all of them as one piece is gonna suuuuuuuck.
@Audvin If you look at the below colour wheel Purple is the perfect companion for yellow so for your armour colour I would go Silver but glazed with Druchii violet. Base coat Leadbleacher, wash with Nuln oil (light wash) highlight with Stormhost silver then glaze with Druchii violet apply coats until you get the desired purple tint, let it dry fully between coats as it drys darker and don't let it puddle, then reapply spot highlights of Stormhost silver. To get the desired glaze mix Druchii and Medium (or water) at a ratio of 8/1 the 1 being the Druchii
Did a kitbash of leftover parts from one of the 3 carno kits plus some greenstuff to make a Sunblood. The shield will be the Oldblood Carno headpiece or a customized Guard shield. The Greenstuff work is rudimentary and lack any refined finish, but it’s a first try so I’m not worried. Any C&C is welcome.
