So far I have two units of 12 skinks, and now i'm working on 10 saurus warriors. I'm not that good with a camera so bear the quality of the photo's . This is one of my skink units: And these are the saurus warriors I'm working on. Now for the Saurusses, I'm at a point where I need to make some colour choices again: the shields, the obsinite (blade of the weapon), and I want to keep in mind i also need a colour for the cold ones i'll be doing next, that fits with these saurusses. For the shields, I was thinking green. However, I dunno what to do with the cold ones then. (And all the other monsters...) I love bright colours but i'm afraid that if i take too many different colours it will look messy. I'm especially stuck on the obsinite. I don't want it to be metal as I already have a lot of metal (gold). The obvious choice is grey but I don't really like that colour. I love my current colour scheme and don't wanna ruin it. So, any suggestions?
I like the blue and purple color scheme. As for weapons I always thought black obsidian weapons would look good, but I've had trouble making that look good. Your shields might look good in a warm color to contrast the bodies. I was looking at anohter forum and found a nice looking army with a blue and purple color scheme you might want to check out for some ideas. Looks like he went for red shields and grey weapons. http://www.warhammer.org.uk/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=56472
For my spearheads I'm leaving them black, with a few hard-edged highlights of a very light gray, and then giving them a layer of gloss coat to make them reflective. Assuming you do the rest of the models matte, I think it looks pretty good. The camera didn't capture it well, but images are at http://www.lustria-online.com/viewtopic.php?p=24689#p24689
Something that I read somewhere about the shield's colorization. The shields from the skinks was usually taken from the hide of saurus or cold ones. While the shields for the saurus was generall taken from cold ones or Stegadons. For the temple guard only the hide from a Carnosaur was used (because they're the most bad a**ed of all the saurus so they get the more vicous of the animals for their shields).
