I think it is because they are _very_ close to Chaos. They are brutal and love fighting. I totally see them going to fight other warbands in Skirmishes in Archaon's domain.

A Slann would bring an army. That would kinda defeat the purpose of the game.

imho one of the big flaws in the set-up of this game. The whole idea is that it's a bunch of chaos cultists vying for archeon's approval on the doorstep of his stronghold. The hell is any other faction doing there?

    Agree.
Probably they just thought: let's include some more factions, especially for people who don't give a s*** about the story and just want to play a game.

Interesting news from the next Warcry article - two more warbands have already been announced!

The Scions of the Flame obviously are going to be the Aqshy warband:
The other warband, called the Spire Tyrants, look as if they are going to hail from the Varanspire itself, pretty much the Warcry equivalent of the Enforcers in Necromunda:

There’s also a new video that highlights the strengths and weaknesses of the six main warbands coming in the more recent future:

I'm sure we've all read posts about people upset warcry wasn't AoS kill team. It's no wonder they wanted to throw players a bone but I would have prefered just a deep dive on the theme by just sticking to chaos for most of it.

IMO they would have to change too much of the world to make it even remotely acceptable to a wide range of people, and then they would alienate the fans.

I don't see any way that would work.

meh, grimdark sci-fi should draw in plenty of viewers imho. I mean, it's not going to draw in certain audiences, but it does have a clear and large niche.

A world in which religiously fanatic, racist, genocidal Nazis who have no respect for life, not even the lives of their people, pass as the good guys is hardly anything to succeed in a mass market. And TV shows are normally made for the mass market. The niche will be tiny. And if the niche is tiny that means that they are unlikely to put a lot of money in there, which subsequently influences quality.
    I am very sceptical.

There's plenty of explosions to distract from all the grimdark. And in fairness, it wouldn't be the first TV show where upon closer inspection the "good" guys have some disturbing philosophies. And in some cases you won't even need to inspect it all that closely to notice...

And besides, a lot of it can be avoided by focussing on the right things. The attrition rate of guardsman of 98% in a siege is just a number in the background, which works fine in a distopian setting. Just don't make the show revolve around nobles sitting in a "comfortable" spaceship having lavish feasts while they discuss where to send the next million guardsmen to die down on the planet. The xenophobia would be acceptable as long as you aim it at something properly monsterous (e.g. make em fight tyranids, or a chaos invasion, not the relativly friendly Tau). And the various horrific things that can happen in the galaxy can be turned down (just show an artillery barrage from a distance and say 100.000 men died instead of showing close-ups of people exploding), or only implied to happen of screen. Plenty of books, games, and shows that have implied horrors happen even when aimed at kids.

I'd say the niche is more than big enough for it to be potentially succesfull and attract investors.

Also with streaming services as they are right now, even a small niche can mean quite a large audience. You no longer have to fight for prime-time slots with more family friendly stuff.

Definitely a possibility if they tone it down, sure.

My one gripe with 40k and warhammer as a whole is that they have this massive universe that is literally dripping with lore, stories, and entire worlds thick with detail that has the potential to make a series of films to rival the marvel universe or games to rival the renown of world of warcraft or call of duty.

But they fuck ti up every single time. Why can't they make ANYTHING decent out of Warhammer? Two games spring to mind, Dawn of War (first one) and Total war: Warhammer. That's it. Everything else is a steaming pile of garbage and it annoys me. I have no doubt that this will be no different.

There's a bunch of good ones.
    - Space marine: spectacle fighter you're a space marine, you shoot/punch stuff. Has some interesting multiplayer modes, though since the game is old I doubt you'l find many people to play with.
    - Mechanicus: turn based strategy, you're a techpriest raiding a necron tome. Bit repetitive though towards the later missions as you start running into the limitations of the customisation system and your techpriests no longer really improve. Also the arbitrary deadline is a bit annoying.
    - Spacehulk deathwing: you're a terminator going into a spacehulk, shoot/punch stuff. Great atmosphere and guns. Bit repetitive though, there aren't that many possibilities for different enviroments in a spacehulk just loads of corridors and open areas in broken down spaceships.
    - Battlefleet gothic I & II: fleet simulation. You gotta like the genre though.
    - vermintide is supposed to be good
    - DoW II is also good, though a very different game from I (and III is just too different from both of these, which pissed off the fans and caused it to flop despite it not being truly terrible)
    - Chaosbane is decent, though diablo clones are so common that decent isn't enough to stand out from the crowd.
    - Gladius: capable 4X game
    - Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor: another diablo clone, was promissing when I got the early acces haven't played it in a while though.
    - Mordheim: mordheim but digital
    - bloodbowl: bloodbowl but digital
    - Regicide: a weird chess-game, quite fun though. Mixes chess with warhammer. basicly your chess pieces now have guns so you can take the king by regular chess rules or by repeatedly shooting him.
    - Sanctus reach: turn based strategy supposed to be quite good.

There's also some older games that were decent, I have some old strategy game that was quite fun (set in WHFB).

And that's just the ones I know of.

GW has taken a scattergun approach to this. And although it does occasionally lead to some amazing stuff it does also mean there's a lot of garbage.

Warhammer games and media are certainly hit-and-miss - Ultramarines was the very first film they made for 40K and it retains mixed views to this day despite starring legends like Terence Stamp and John Hurt.

I did have a copy of Dawn of War II I got from the charity shop, but because Steam got their grubby mitts on it it meant that once the first player had activated it, it was evidently logged in Steam’s database as activated, as I couldn’t activate it myself because it had been activated by someone else’s account. However to me it looks better than the original because there were more races (not least Tyranids who were absent from the first one, and Newcrons in Last Stand mode - Dawn of War I had the Oldcrons which, while having garnered a legion of fans, never interested me). I was instantly put off Dawn of War III when it didn’t have Tyranids and gave the Craftworld Eldar the Wraithknight, the most overpowered unit ever made in the first 6 editions of the game and the single unit I blame for the decline of 40K into 7th and 8th, the former being pointless and the latter being terrible.

One Warhammer game I do love is the original Warhammer Quest for iOS and Android - while it can get repetitive at times and it is set in the Empire (*YAWN*) the visuals are great and the music is wonderful. Have a listen to these tracks, which are some of my favourites:

I never played space marine but I did play fire warrior, which I enjoyed to be fair. Shadow of the horned rat I also liked. I disagree with space hulk, it wasn't as good as I was expecting to be, especially after the disastrous launch. The vast majority of the others are only decent because they are digital clones of the table top version, all of which are fantastic tabletop games so it would be hard for the digital versions not to be fantastic too.

My frustration comes from them not doing more with it. I think as fans of the hobby we are slightly biased and more likely to put up with something a little rough round the edges for the sake of it being Warhammer related.

I have only played two Warhammer PC games, but I think I know what you mean.
Take Chaosbane. IMO the game is fun, I played over 100 hours of it now.
They are only a few steps away from it being great. I hope they go those steps. Right now it just feels kinda... empty from a certain point on. But it has so much potential!

Out of interest, does anyone know what this turned out to be?
I did notice back in May that they were hiring for a training scheme that could potentially lead to a job with the Design Studio.

To be fair, The Man in the High Castle is literally about the Nazis and if they took over, and I don’t think they even go that far to present them as the baddies. It might not be taken to the extremes quite as much as 40k, but they do have solid experience with that sort of thing
