    Hi guys!

I finally managed to make the time to start on my Seraphon army. I bought a Start Collecting box about a year ago, and got the battle force for X-mas, so gotta a lot of minis to go through ^_^

Since this site has been a lot of help for getting some inspiration, I thought I'd share the journey with you.

So right now I'm going through the SC Box. I read crowfoot's tutorial on expanding it, I've decided to make the astrolith bearer, but not the scar vet on cold one and the troglodon. So I built the oracle as a priest.

I also bought some drakespawn on ebay cause I'm not a fan of the current cold one sculps (new battletome and sculpts when GW?)

When I got the box, I started building stuff as I was quite motivated, but unfortunately I didnt take progress pictures of what I did.

I built the carnosaur almost entirely, leaving the head out to help with painting. I put a magnet in the carnosaur and under the throne for the pleasure of having the naked carno. I built the sunblood and magnetised the arm to be able to switch from the laser arm to the shield arm. I regret gluing the top of the head as I feel its gonna be annoying for painting.
sunblood build 1.jpg carnosaur build.jpg sunblood build 2.jpg

Once I was done with that, I started moding the skink oracle into a skink startpriest. I added a bunch of feathers (stolen from the stardrake icons you get from the saurus warriors. I put the dagger in one hand and turned the banner on his back into a magic staff
skink oracle build.jpg skink oracle build back.jpg

Next was the biggest task yet, the astrolight bearer. Lot of green stuff used for this. I wanted my bearer to resemble the oldblood you get from the box. The sculpt are way cooler than the current one, or from the saurus warriors. So I used the spare head, body and legs from the carno sprue, and then cheated...

I got some blue stuff and cast the body part of the old blood. the one you only get one piece of.

I know its illegal, but I couldnt find this piece alone on ebay an thought I was not good enough at sculpting. In retrospect I should have given Xlanax_lot conversion a shot (reuse a carno tail as body).
Anyway the casting was not perfect and I had to go back in a lot and fix stuff.

Since I used the mega lance arm on my oldblood, I used the starlance one onmy bearer to hold the icon. I had to sculpt a left arm tho. I reused the sword from the oldblood for that arm.

And then I had a lot of fun with the astrolith. I used a 32mm base and a lot of green stuff to try and sculpt the original. I then used a lot of decorative stuff from troglodon colar and icons. I'm quite happy with how it's looking so far.

And thats how far I got before I took a break. A one year break...

So I've now picked up building the army again. I've decided to tackle the warriors and was a little aprehensive as they were part of the reason I took a break.
I'm not a big fan of the scuplt. its cool but quite dated. So I decided to mod them a bit, but that meant spending a lot of time on them.
I new I wanted them to be more like the total war warriors, and less like the frog head with chicken tighs that the current sculpt is. This is what I was aiming for.
So I started moding but I wasn't getting what I was looking for so I sorta stopped.

A year later I'm back at it again and found a good process for moding my warriors. I quite happy with it now and I've done a better job documenting it. Here it goes:

First I cut the main body and the leg. Then I shaved the thighs with knife and files.
    part-1.jpg part-2.jpg

Next, I cut through the base of the tail so I could make it a tad more horizontal and filled it with green stuff. I also shaved the side of the head to make it closer to the oldblood face. I got the inspiration from a thread about adding a smile to lizardmen.
    part-3.jpg
    part-4.jpg
I then glued the leg and then the body on a temp base and drilled a hole in the head and the body so I can use a paperclip bit to hold them together.
    part-6.jpg part-7.jpg

Then I put green stuff on the thighs to sculpt back the scales and also make a neck an put scales on the side of the head. All that was left was to glue the arms to the body.
    part-9.jpg part-10.jpg

And the build is pretty much done. I'm not putting the shield on right now for painting purposes. I'm quite happy with the result. It looks nice to me and makes them feel personal.

I now need to find a color scheme for the army. I've done a fair bit of research and boiled it down to 3 color schemes I liked and quickly painted one warrior per scheme to help me decide.

    color tests.jpg

Green is my favourite color so I wanted to find a scheme for it. I like the green shades going but I feel like the grey is too bleak. might try and put some color in it, like ushabti bones or something.

the blue and red one is lifted from the battletome. I quite like it in the battletome, got some spiderman vibes to it.

The blue and yellow one is inspired by Xlanax_lot's starblood. I like it but I'm afraid this scheme requires a lot of attending to to make it work, so that might be time consuming on a whole army.

I think I like the first and third one best. I need to work a little more on the first one tho as I think it might leed to what I'm looking for.

    Hey guys!

So I've decided to settle on the green and white theme. I've made 2 other saurus that I've taken up to the standard I'd like the rest of them to have, so I can make a plan for some batch painting.
I made their skin different though, one is more gray blue, the other more bleached bone sorta thing. I think I prefer the more gray-blueish one right now.

Next step will be to paint the whole bunch

Looking good! The color schemes you picked out are very bold and stand out very well. Seeing the rest of your batch will be awesome

    Hey guys!

Thanks for all the nice comments :)

Back from a 2 week holiday, I went back on the paint grind ^_^!

I've painted the soldiers up to the standard of the test models and I'm quite happy with the result.

group update 1.jpg Group update 2.jpg Group update 3.jpg Group update 4.jpg Group update 5.jpg Group update 6.jpg Group update 7.jpg Group update 8.jpg

What's left to do now is:
    - put shoulder pads on alpha, icon holder and drummer
    - paint star drake icon
    - decide on a color scheme for the shields (currendly thinking purple to have a fun Joker color scheme going)
    - paint all the shields
    - basing

So still quite a bit of work ahead of me, but I feel the hardest is behind me.

Looks amazing! How did you go about paining your white areas? I've not been able to paint much but I am struggling with mine.

    Thanks guys!

For my white areas, I'd say patience ans glazes.
I went for a vallejo wolf grey undercoat.
Then put a wash that was a mix of nuln oil and drakenhoff nightshade.
Then I went back to wolf grey and gradually added white

    Hi guys!

Some update on my Saurus warriors. I've finished the shields, stardrake icon and all the shoulder pads I wanted to add (to the alpha, the drummer and the icon holder).

All that's left now are the bases :)

    Lovely unit of Warriors.
Bright colors and I like your conversion with the long necks.
I see your using larger bases, it gives them a great look.
