looking on the GW website (from America) the price for the ossiarchs is out of whack. three stalkers cost 50$ and two Morhgasts cost 60 and the bundle for 6 stalkers and 2 morghasgts cost 160.... wheres the discount? there no reason to buy one over the other. reviewing the others shows again, exactly zero discount for the larger bundles.... makes you wonder....is this going to be the new norm?

Those bundles aren't actually bundles. They are lots. If you buy them they are literally those kits in the individual product boxes. The "service" those lots provide is grouping units that are likely to be used within that particular army to guide consumers in their purchase.

In my opinion it just clutters up the site, but I'm sure it must give them some (however small) boost in sales. You know that some people will go for it and buy more than they might have otherwise.

Even that seems farfetched, it's not like the "bundles" are particularly weird combinations where you easily end up with too much. Or just flat out give you too many of a unit. Hell, the bundles aren't even pushing units that are just really common & you're guaranteed to have doubles of in any serious collection like the admech tech priest which is included in virtually every single admech bundle cuz they have virtually no other heroes.

And drawing in impulsbuyers on a site, for a hobby like this, seems relativly pointless as well. It's not like in a physical store where they stick a large sticker on it screaming "now only 150,-" and put it next to the cashregister.

Admittadly, the cost is also minimal, so not like they run any risks with it either. Worst case it gives some extra exposure to that particular unit/faction.

There must be some benefit to them, no matter how small, or they wouldn't be do it. Driving in a few extra sales is the only thing I can think of. The cost is virtually nothing, so even a small increase in sales would justify it.

The fact that those bundles have lingered on the site for so long means that someone must be purchasing them.

Yeah, but I'd guess it'd be a statisticly insignificant amount. The sold copies probably cover the minimal cost, but I doubt they actually sell significantly more than without the "bundles". If they did there'd probably be more bundles like it and they'd stick around for longer. Right now they only really seem to pop up around a major release as examples of what to build really. At which point "buying more than you need" isn't really a thing yet since noone has anything yet and it isn't like they contain doubles or something like that.

I don't think the effect is great, but it must have some net positive effect (even if that effect is very minimal). You don't keep putting effort into something unless it yields you some kind of reward. A few people will impulse buy more than they should, a few people will think they are actually getting a deal, etc. It only takes a couple of extra sales to make it a worthwhile practice.

GW does not package their own materials, its done by a third party they have under contract. so less boxes used is a benefit. very small per unit, but if they expect a large volume of those units included, then on the scale in which GW operates it becomes a noticeable cost defrayment.

mm, that might be more noticeable yeah, especially when a new faction is released with a load of hype and they can count on a reasonable chunk of them being sold at once.

That is interesting. Can you confirm that a one click bundle is boxed differently than if those items were purchased as separate items within a single checkout purchase?

Might also be that they can then more accuratly predict demand and thus what they should stock up on. Both of those should result in noticeable gains in terms of efficiency.

not at this time, for this faction, as no one in my LGS is playing them. However they have in the past treated similar "bundles" to different boxings for Tyranids, for which I can confirm having purchased several personally.
