Well, i suppose it will work as Horus Heresy.
Old models may have survived the millenia 'til the End TImes to the Age of Myth and AoS, but by logic all the factions that have appeared after the End Times, cannot be seen in the past.
This shouldn't be some crappy time travel.

I really hope so. SCE in the Old World would instantly ensure that I don't adopt and invest in the Old World release.

Of course KO and SCE can't appear in the old world. But seraphon/lizardmen, most of chaos, cities of sigmar/empire, greenskins & ogers, anything undead all have considerable chunks that can and should carry over. And there's probably others as well. It'd be weird if those wouldn't be useable in both games.

More in general though this also makes me wonder what they even want to do with it. We already know the stories of the old world. We know their armies. There isn't a whole lot that you can do there without immeadiatly causing plotholes or needing to retcon half the universe. At least with the horus heresy we didn't know much about that time period, so there were stories to be told. And we knew that during that time they had technology that has since been lost which allows for new units. The old world doesn't really have the same unknowns that the horus heresy had.

Lizardmen and Chaos ARE WFB armies. I think what @Lord Agragax of Lunaxoatl is saying is that the inclusion of post End Times new models (i.e. not counting redos like the new stone trolls) into the Old World would be problematic. Obviously classic WFB armies like Lizardmen should form the backbone of the new WFB.

well yeah, but what happens when lizardmen or seraphon get a new model? Will it only exist in one universe, despite clearly fitting in with the other universe just fine? What happens if I use the shared models to build a lizardmen army? Can I still use it as seraphon? Vice versa? This just sounds like something that's going to backfire if they're not super carefull with it. It isn't like the horus heresy where 40K space marines are actually different from their "older" counterparts and you have a convenient excuse as to why you can't use the old 30K stuff in 40K (besides maybe as the odd captain in relic armour or something)

There's also an alternative take that nobody seems to be considering. Are we sure they're not going to do this redone WFB in a different SCALE? Say, 25mm like the LOTR minis, or even 20 or 15mm? Might be less overlap then...

It is a possibility we might want to consider. I doubt they'll do it, but the option is there...

Depends on the aesthetic of the model. If it is futuristic with space faring technology, then keep it out of the Old World. If the model is sculpted with a Mayan/Aztec aesthetic, then it can work in both. Also, does the model rank up properly?

Conversions have always been a part of the hobby. As long as the conversion is clearly representative of the model it is taking the place of, I see no problem with it.

It is a possibility, although I think it is an extremely remote one. Incorporating a different scale would likely instantly turn away a very large swath of the WFB community. Plus it would drive down potential cross-over sales for things like conversions.

Also, they would have to release a complete model line for the entire game. That is a huge investment on their part.

Hmm, true. Would be nice if we got some stuff for the revived WFB that we've never seen before. Would also be nice if they brought back the Dogs of War (unlikely), Dark Elf Cityguard (equally unlikely and can be done in AoS much more easily than you ever could do it with WFB), or maybe something new, like Cathay...

Just as an fyi, the new Sisters of Battle box for 40k sold out in 15 minutes. This limited supply BS is getting highly annoying, and seems like GW is hellbent on keeping that habit. Costs for kits are going up across the board, but whenever they could earn truckloads of money they don't want to. Like WTF, dou you even calculate, bro? All the while resellers are laughing with boxes up on ebay an hour later for 240 - 400€ (box price was 160€).

Assuming the aesthetic between the AoS faction and its WFB isn't radically different yeah. Which raises the question, how are they going to ensure that it all works with ranking up, base sizes etc. Cuz I doubt many people will want to maintain both an AoS and WFB army if both are essentially the same thing just with slightly different poses or on square vs. round bases. And you can bet that there's going to be a chunk of people who'l be angry if there's no support for crossovers when the two games have essentially the same faction.

Not talking about conversions, I mean that there should be units that are literally the same in both games. If GW introduces seperate models for that it'l come across as a cheap moneygrab and anger a significant amount of people. Which is fine if they solely want to entice the grumbling purists to come back and buy their stuff again. But targeting a game specificly at that demographic, while angering others, doesn't seem like the greatest of ideas.

meh, just don't buy from re-sellers. Especially with warhammer, most of the stuff isn't limited edition and will get reprinted eventually just wait a couple of weeks.

Admittadly it's anyone's guess why GW doesn't just print more, doesn't really seem a benefit to this artificial scarcity for them.

Of course some stuff should be carried over - all of Lizardmen, Warriors of Chaos, Ogres, Empire and Dark Elves, plus Dryads from Sylvaneth, most of Gloomspite Gitz, Ardboyz from Ironjawz (they were originally Black Orcs), all of Bonesplitterz, all of Flesh Eater Courts and most of Legions of Nagash, but as @NIGHTBRINGER says, what I mean is none of the factions that appeared after the End Times should be included as otherwise that would wreck the canon.

Not everything undead, as Nighthaunt didn’t appear en masses until the Necroquake incident in AoS and Ossiarch didn’t appear until much later. Flesh Eater Courts and most of Legions of Nagash should return as Vampire Counts though.

I hope they don't use this as a reason to retire older armies from AoS and limit/stop production of models. Left with just book updates for this new/born again WHFB.

The round vs square bases is going to be weird. From the article it says all they have is a logo. I wonder if that is really all they have. They didn't put a deadline on the release and mentioned it's a long ways away so I bet they are asking these questions as well.

Some of it is, some of it isn't.

@Lord Agragax of Lunaxoatl summarizes it perfectly... " none of the factions that appeared after the End Times should be included as otherwise that would wreck the canon."

It is as simple as that.
Maybe they'll move Seraphon back over to WFB Lizardmen!!! (don't worry they won't). I'd laugh my ass off. :joyful:

On a more serious note, I'm sure they will figure it out. We don't know what direction they are going to go in.

Coming in here with a very brief and hopefully uncontroversial take.

My desired outcome for this whole thing would be an Old World expansion/supplement for Age of Sigmar - keep the core rules but release a phat new book of scenarios/battleplans, factions (many of which I assume will use existing models), and other such things, perhaps with some additional new rules to better reflect the nature of battles in the Old World (I personally would love to see the old spell lores make a comeback - gib Comet of Cassandora).

On top of that give us some nice new terrain kits, minis, and accessories, all that shizzle. Basically do this as a big expansion rather than whole new game. If we could get the Tomb Kings back that would also be great but I won't hold my breath.

I don’t think that’s likely - the fact that GW have brought back square bases is a guarantee in itself that Warhammer: the Old World is going to be a different game to AoS, one that preserves the rank-and-flank rules of the previous Fantasy editions.

This is probably the most likely thing to happen that you’ve mentioned in your post - GW released a couple of Settra memes that have pretty much confirmed he will be returning, and when Settra returns, the rest of the Tomb Kings army won’t be far behind...

That would make no sense with Warhammer lore, End Times or Pre-End Times. Nagash gave Settra the offer to join his Mortarch Crew, but Settra just stuck two fingers in Nagash’s general direction and said ‘I do not serve, I rule!’ So Nagash blew him up with magic. Unless this new Fantasy game is going to be set in some alternative universe where Settra accepted, the prospect of Settra being a Mortarch is highly unlikely.

That was not how Settra ended. In his final apparition he basically saved Nagash's ass and called him "price of Khemri" .
Then Settra leaves unbent toward his possible final doom .
