So not much to add, well actually quite a bit to add.... I bought second hand seraphon kits 2 SC box with a box of skinks and a skinks star priest to had to the collection that was 3 days ago... now today we’ll i added to the Nighthaunt collection, ah!! basically the Nighthaunt half of soul war and storm strike box, 5 Hexwraith, 6 spirit host (3 still on squares), and 3 hero. I think that’s it for model and it came with the Battletome, dice, and warscroll. On the hobbie side have been working on some striping rescue and started to mag the wings off my SCE !! Have to start painting my iron golem !! Exited about it!!
Correct me if I’m wrong but this poor guys should have more details right?!? Just got a bad case of 2 thick coat ?!? Anyway more to the collection here’s the extra 2 SC box and skinks box Now I can’t mix saurus/skinks with different weapon option correct? They should be able to lol Anyway I feel like our poor starpriest will go that a LA bath soon!!

Ok break this down for me. I see: 1. Black undercoat 2.Medium blue armor panels/helm, in what looks like straight over the black undercoat? 3. Some sort of light flesh color, looks like right over the black as well. Also some grounding questions: 1. What is your goal with collecting multiple armies (SC, Seraphim, Nighthaunt?) I don't want you to go down the rabbit hole of ooh shiny syndrome like I did unless it is specifically what you want. 2. What black undercoat is that? What type of spray can? 3. What paints do you have or are available to buy locally for you? This will determine what paints I suggest in the future. You get points for LA's totally awesome. It's the best paint stripper I've ever found. You also get bonus points for being Canadian. I'm half Canadian although I live in the states currently. Finally my first point of advice: get two water pots for your painting area. Label one four uses of metallic paints only. It will save you grief in the future.
I use krylon camo black for under coat Kantor blue, and now added drakenhof nightshade on top(not pictured that way) , and rakarth flesh with reikland fleshshade for the skin I started collecting SCE and Nighthaunt mostly because of soul wars box that been said I love/like both army, since I got the battle tome for Nighthaunt I like them event more, and seraphon well that just pure love for the Dino who could resisted. Down the road I wouldn’t mind having one army of each grand alliance , most likely slaves to darkness ( since I have/am collecting so much of the warcry stuff) And not too sure destruction I do like the BCR. Less to paint heheheh and lots of big beats!! As far as paint so far my collection is all citadel except primers, now I do have Vallejo primer for airbrush and lacking the airbrush itself idk how well if at all I’ll be able to brush it on?!? Perhaps I’ll need to a airbrush, there is shop shop that as all of Vallejo or almost all near by and they have other stuff too just can’t remember . Hey I’m also American somewhat... have my american citizenship that count right !! Lol Yeah I was happy to find out we have dollardtree as well here and that they also carried LA!! Already on the 2 pot thing thx well more like one pot and a glass but you get the ideal!! Lol Thx for the help btw
My inspiration for my iron golem come from this picture, now I realize that he/she use a airbrush and I won’t be getting anywhere near that look but still!!
Oh they mention using a airbrush to get the base black/blue colour on I realize there’s layers of highlights on top of that Anyhow here a few more colour on I touch up the black to have a better undercoat for the metal parts and that just one base coat on no wash etc... cheers
That looks better than the regular Legionary. Are you sending your paints with water? The skin color looks a tad thick but that may just be the photo and my eyesight.
Yeah there’s I think 3 coat to cover the black primer... I think over all I may have over done the primer a little... that been said I’m slowly transferring my paint into dropper bottle using liquidttex flow aid, And I’m adding a bit of water on the pallet as I see fit but I think with the flow aid it makes it harder perhaps to feel the paint idk maybe it’s just me I think perhaps the combination of over priming and the flow aid, wet pallet and FNG (aka me) not knowing much.... it could look a bit heavy on the paint side of things but for a first model it’s ok lol I can only get better right?!? Right?!?!
So let’s try this out with this poor fella!! I unfortunately don’t have a airbrush and don’t feel like freezing outside so I’ll brush on some white Vallejo surface primer on and voila!! Definitely have to one at some point.... Now I was curious so I attacked him pretty quickly everything except the skin is one coat got 2 on the skin, and no washes yet. Will have to go over everything ones again but that fine. Just wanted a quick feel of how he would look finish... Thoughts anyone?
its better than the black primer, looks more smooth and as if the coats covered more thuroughly. I'd suggest a spray can, rather than an airbrush. rustoleum makes a spray can of matte white which is quite good.
Ease of use comes to mind. You just step outside, rattle, and spray. For me it is also time. When using the airbrush I have to set everything up and that takes time. Also: that vallejo airbrush primer I use takes ages to dry. Like, 10 hours or so, or it will rub straight off.
All of this. Speed, ease of use, ease of access compared to having to order or find airbrush primer, good bond/coverage. Rust oleum ultra matte white. $3.85 each at Walmart in my area.
I’ll have to look for it, it’s working good ? I have krylon Kaki so far I like it (use on terrain) I’ll see once I attack my untamed beats as they are primed with it. I’ll look for that white I think I’ve seen it before probably 10$ around here damm CAN$
