Aiming for 1000 28mm figures in 12 months....Brother Maynard better bring up the holy painting grenade of antioch, because I'm going to need it. Hail, lizards and friends of old, and welcome to this blog. I'm posting this a few days early from the turn of the year, as is tradition. Any further 2026 painting prep will be posted here, although models finished before end of year will be added to the 2025 thread. As you may well know, I log my painting progress each year and this main post becomes a list of everything I've painted. I assign points values based on size and complexity as a form of inspiration to continue to paint. My goal is normally 365 miniatures or equivalents per year. My initial goal this year is up to 1000 infantry 28mm figures. To stand testament to my progress, my tracker and self imposed rules are below, to be edited as necessary. Wargamers Challenge 2026 = Main scales - 28mm+ = Grand Scales - 10mm = Rules: Main scales are 1/72 and 28mm Smalls encompasses anything smaller than 20mm (1/72) plus starships Standard infantry count as one for painting Cavalry count as two for painting ogre sized models count as two for painting. Thank you for the confidence, my friend. We need tp catch up sometime. Plans for 2026: I'm opening 2026 on the first at midnight with 10 Late Roman Palatini troops and one to five randomly chosen Tyranids from my box of bugs to work on. The plan for Friday is to work, and then when I get off work paint 10 Limitanei with Spatha and shield unit. After this the weekend is going to either be spending time with my family or Working on more limitanei OR cataphracts. I'll also filter in tyranids in between these. I also need to put time into my Feathered Serpent entry. I was going to do a roman legionary Aquilla standard, as arguably it is a totem of power in that the legions would swear their oath to the state while looking at it. I may have to settle for an Ossiarch Bonereaper terrain piece I've had sitting unopened for a long time. We'll see. Going forward: 2026 is going to be the year of romans, with the project receiving quite a bit of my attention. I'll also be working on cleaning up my office and sorting out more of what I need to sell, because I need to reduce and make some space. To this end I may or may not attend a local wargame show at the end of April in Orlando and rent a flea market table. More info will be forthcoming if that materializes. Anything that can be sold on mcdougalldesigns3d.com will be so. other than that, my hobby plans are open ended and see where inspiration strikes though i may make further plans. I'll keep you all posted.
Last night's build, in addition to some tyranids that showed up today. I got this lot for roughly $100, which I'm quite happy with. GW is expensive, but you can get some good deals online.
