Oh, I like the weapon. Most modelers just take the whole "blade" of sauri swords and then it looks weird. But yours looks believable, not overbalanced (not the right word but I didn't thought of any better :/ ). I am totally going to steal that weapon idea in future (when I finally get to create a great weapon hero). Keep it up
I hacked apart 3 different hand weapons for the conversion. I used part of the saurus standard bearer banner pole for the upper and middle parts of the great weapon. I did shorten it though as it was way too long. The upper arm I think was a temple guard arm hacked off at the wrist. The right hand is the one that comes attached to the standard. I used the left arm from a temple guard musician with the drum stick removed from the top of the hand. I left the bottom of the drum stick intact as it looks like it belongs to the great weapon. I had to completely reposition the hands so they lined up properly. I used green stuff to fill the gaps in the shoulder blades, the upper wrist and of course to fill in the gaps at the top and back of the great weapon itself. The body is from the temple guard sprue. The head is the CoC champion head. I cut off the little chin adornment from that and replaced it with the one from the temple guard champions head. I also used the skull from the base of the temple guard champions weapon to complete the effect. The base is just cork board. I needed to put him on that so I could actually rank him up with other saurus as the great weapon sticks out to the side too much!
it is pretty cool, but it has one flaw. it has too narrow shoulders for my taste. i recently experimented with bulking up a normal saurus and it worked pretty well. you can check out my plog (see signature) if you are interested. looking forward to seeing it painted
I wasn't quite sure what to do with the shoulders so I left them as is and simply filled the gap. My green stuff skills are definitely a work in progress. I might try and see what the saurus shoulder pads look like on it.
A very natural looking conversion, great job! I agree that shoulder armor of some kind would put this guy over the top. Thanks for posting this - I'm inspired now to get some sculpting done when I get home from work today
I put the saurus champion shoulder pads on him and I think it does look better (plus hides some of my crappy greenstuff scales). I'll start painting him shortly.
