A conversation started when I introduced myself (http://www.lustria-online.com/threads/greatings.10379/) regarding Mordheim and getting a club/group interested. I thought it might be worth continuing that conversation here. Here are my thoughts on getting started (and this is what I did to get my friends plugged in 12 years ago).

Buy, build, and paint a few warbands (if you have people who are already interested, get them to chip in on the cost, if not on the labor as well). The Empire Militia box, Skaven Clanrat box, and Dwarf Warriors box would be a good place to start, as each could be used to build a warband.

Build some terrain and run some demo games at your local store/club/house. Once people see the game in action, they'll have a better idea of whether they'd be interested or not. For your D&D friends, be sure to explain how your warband gains experience and that they can tailor their heroes to make fairly unique characters.

Once people are hooked, you can start piecing together warbands from different sources. I think you can still buy some of the warbands from the GW site, if not from your favorite online source.

The nice thing is that most warbands can be started from a single box, so the initial investment is pretty low. Also, anyone who already plays fantasy should be able to build a warband from their existing models!

If anyone has any other tips or questions, let me know.

I had a friend expose me to Mordheim. At the time, I had the following armies: Lizardmen, VC, Ogres, and O&G. I have now played all of those warbands to some extent or another. I have also added a Warrior Monk warband recently using some Malifaux Ten Thunders models (which look great btw).

I have ran demos at the club and have had a few people start playing Mordheim from those. I struggle to find more than a single person that consistantly wants to play. That said, we each have 2 or 3 warbands that we play to keep the fun in the game.

A big draw for us is that the games only take between 30 and 45 minutes to play (vs. the several hours that a Fantasy game can take).

Here is a great link for a Mordheim forum online, Tom's Boring Mordheim Forum: http://boringmordheimforum.forumieren.com/

Thank you both for your helpful tips! This does sound encouraging. I have plenty of models available for Warbands even if they are not the "official" Mordheim ones, but they are WFB GW ones.

How important is the square bases in this game? Reason I ask is many of my D&D friends have their metal mini's for that game and I was thinking they could use those so they wouldn't have the expense of buying new? Investing $ into another game that they may/may not like is a turn off for these players.

How about terrain and size of game table? I'm assuming buildings that can be played inside of them is a mainstay? Can the Dwarven Forge dungeon sets be used for dungeon exploration? It would be like D&D, but using Mordheim rules? Is Role Playing, to an extent, ever used in Mordheim?

Honestly, I just wish there was someone else in my area that plays who could teach me or at least so I can watch and/or play a game to get a grasp of the mechanics. hehe. Reading the rules is one thing, but seeing it unfold on the table top is another, imo.

Also, Thanks Arli, for the link! I'm going to check that site out soon!

I'm sure I'll have lots more questions (and sorry for ALL of these!) later.

The bases really do not matter. Mordheim is a WYSIWYG game also (we play it pretty loosely though). I play a buddy of mine that uses 40k orks for his Orc warband. My warrior monks warband has round bases. It can play a factor in the game as far as base to base contact (for combat) works.

The terrain is the standard 28mm terrain. Anything that would work for 40k or Fantasy is the right scale. There are also some rules for dungeon play.

As far as role playing goes, it really amounts to back story and fluff, so yes, I bet it fairly common to see. The exploration/experience gaining stage is really fun. It does not have the smae level of magic as D&D though.
