I've been working my way through the five stages of grief following our book release: Denial- "Hey, this isn't too bad... Right? My favorite guy is pretty good, I have a sweet converted model..." Anger- "Shockingly feeble dinosaurs... Poorly worded rules... Total lack of inspiration... Trounced by Chaos Warrior and High Elf cool new units yet again... Yes. Yes, it IS that bad! !@*$*&&%$%!!!!!" Bargaining- "Maybe if we collectively refuse to buy any more of the new models, they'll release an amended book and personal apology..." Depression- "Sigh. Time to buy an X-Box or something until next edition..." And now, grudgingly, Acceptance. Dag nabbit, I've put too much time and money into my hobby to let a lackluster rule set stand in the way of the Will of the Old Ones (And, frankly, the fact that I'm able to spend time whining about table top game rules means I'm better off than I have any right to be)! The Beastmen players stand tall and proud at my game store, and so shall I! So, here's the most interesting approaches I've come across or thought of so far for getting back in the game: Vassal Malestrom: Slann with Deliberations blasts everything through a satellite cloud of skink vassals. Probably need to go ethereal to save points on the temple guard. Majorly power dice dependent, but that's the Slann for you. Troglodon could work here as a more resilient vassal; doubt the opponent will perceive it as any kind of threat . The Classic: TG bunker, kitted Slann. Add support units as necessary. Elf Magic lore attribute has been kinda fun thus far. World-walking salamander into the flank will only work so many times, but when it does, wow. Super Stampede: Stegadons are still great, so let's go for it! Two in rare, three in special, two more ridden by characters... That leaves just enough points for core at 2500. Come at me, chariot-spam chimera-flock Warriors! (They still win this matchup, but at least it'll give 'em pause for thought, however briefly). Now, do I really want to buy and paint four more stegadons? Could probably tone this down into a more reasonable monster mash list, but the other monsters are rather decrepit. I've plenty more ideas churning about; what else have you guys come up with?
There's still plenty of fun stuff I think. But I come from Wood Elves, so maybe I'm biased towards the positive side, heh. I played a full stegadon list in 1500 with a skroxigor and slaan and my HE opponent went bonkers. Crushed him! Then again, he is not very good.. But its fun! Keep up the spirit. Its definitely not as bad as some armies have it.
Yeah, we don't really have any true reason to complain when you think about the state of some other armies! My main opponent is a wood elf player. I have crushed him every single time we have ever played and I can't see myself losing when I try the New book out against him next week regardless of how often he loses he refuses to change army simply because he loves the wood elves.
Oh oh I just imagine fiery conv on his main archer unit.. S4 vs T3 at least for one round, and if he doesnt get enough dispel dice for another. Stegadon into his treeman/treekin. He will not be happy. I think with all the buffs/debuffs and fiery conv it may have even been worse for WE, assuming you get a few spells off.
I'm going to have a go at High Elves again later today, and try to give the Bastiladon a fair shake. I'd like to thin out the White Lions with the laser beam, but they're usually carrying that 2+ ward save banner. I'll have some salamanders and even razordons, too, so we'll see if they can make a dent before the saurus hit. Laser should still have some good targets; maybe bag itself a phoenix or something.
Don't forget to Arcane Unforge that banner at earliest opportunity if you're running a High Magic Slann. You might just be able to get rid of that dispel scroll really early.
Can I still get him if it's the White Lion command , not a BSB character, that's carrying the banner? Also, I was running on the assumption that the spell had to cause a wound in order to destroy the item; if not, that'll make things a lot easier.
A fun list I've been playing with: (caution: sharp edges, rough list) Old-blood, Cold one, stuff Scar-vet, Carnosaur, stuff Skink priest-Beasts Skink priest-Beasts Saurus warriors x2 Skirmishers Bastiladon Kroxigor/SCOR Chameleons Ancient steg/EotG Salamander This looks like a pretty fun list to me. I cannot recall the points level this was designed for, but it has enough combat potential! Also, the magic isn't great, but with a scroll and the cube you should be ok. I think the old-blood can use some offensive gear, and the scar-vet a more defensive one. Anyways, welcome back! Hope you can find the fun again The Hunted
We cannot give up on the Lizardmen We must keep hanging in there to create more & new tactics to suit our units It is The Will of The Old Ones!
Thanks, guys. I needed to hear that. Never fear, on payday I'm going after a Basiladon and the new skink priest model. My Lizardmen won me the last store league of 7th edition, and took me to second place in 8th. Now let's see what I can come up with to top that. Lord Magwe has sat in idle contemplation in my display cabinet for far too long!
