Hey guys, I have been out of the hobby for a while but I asked a friend to sign up for a tournament and he agreed so I have to get back in there. It is a duo tournament with 1000 points each and I would like some advice on what to go for. I do like to at least have a chance of winning some games lol. He want to go nighthaunt and I only have my lizards so that will be the combination. I was thinking of going slann+shadowstrike but I was wondering wether you had any tips for playing with a nighthaunt army. Anything will be helpfull as I havent played in nearly a year haha. Thanks in advance!
I think that Shadowstrike Starhost is Seraphon's most competitive 1k list. Either with or without a Slann. If you go with a Slann then your buddy should focus on the objectives by taking lots of Chainrasp Hordes. If you go Slannless then the Highthaunt player should take beefy durably units like Spirit Host. Let the Nighthaunt player be the anvil, you can be the glass hammer! Both or your armies are incredibly mobile. Focus on denying flanks and maximizing your mobility to gain numbers advantages against a single enemy player. Remove then from the game and then turn your attention on the remaining player. You are both mobile enough that all your games should be the two of you vs one of your opponents!
Yep, that also depends on what kind of nighthaunt army your friend will bring. Cause there's a difference between a slow, anvil-like chainrasp hordes, and a fast hitter list with Black Coach, hexwraiths and a mounted Knight of Shrouds / Reikenor
What other units would you recommend as the hammer? I have only 3 rippers painted up and am not sure i'll have the time to finish the other 3. Maybe a steg that can tp and move in command phase? Nighthaunt player is willing to adapt a bit to make a good combination. He does want to use the black coach so maybe the fast hitters is best then?
I have enough skinks, temple guard and saurus, 10 knights, 3 stegadons (magnetised), 1 bastiladon, 1 carno, 1 trog, 3 rippers, 3 unidentified flying objects, 3 salamanders, few priests, slann, saurus heroes, tetto'ekko, 5 chameleon skinks, can get some kroxigor ready if needed
Your best bet would be to finish off those other 3 unidentified flyers to be Ripperdactyls. If that isn't possible then maybe a Carno or Engine of the Gods? This how I run 1k Shadowstrike both with and without a Slann: 1000pt Shadowstrike Starhost Allegiance: Seraphon - Mortal Realm: Ulgu LEADERS: Skink Starpriest (80) - General - Command Trait : Master of Star Rituals - Artefact : Miasmatic Blade - Spell : Meteoric Convocation Skink Priest (80) - Cloak of Feathers - Artefact : Betrayer's Crown Battleline: 10 x Skinks (70) - Meteoric Javelins & Star Bucklers 10 x Skinks (70) - Meteoric Javelins & Star Bucklers UNITS: 6 x Ripperdactyl Riders (280) 3 x Razordons/Salamanders (120) 3x Razordons/Salamanders (120) BATTALIONS: Shadowstrike Starhost (180) TOTAL: 1000/1000 EXTRA COMMAND POINTS: 1 WOUNDS: 64 1000pt Shadowstrike Starhost w/Slann Allegiance: Seraphon -Mortal Realm: Ulgu Leaders: Slann Starmaster (260) - General - Trait: Great Rememberer - Artefact: Miasmatic Blade - Spell: Stellar Tempest Skink Starpriest (80) - Artefact: Betrayer's Crown - Spell: Meteoric Convocation Battleline: 10 x Skinks (70) - Meteoric Javelins & Star Bucklers 10 x Skinks (70) - Meteoric Javelins & Star Bucklers Units 6 x Ripperdactyl Riders (280) Battalions: Shadowstrike Starhost (180) Endless Spells / Terrain: Balewind Vortex (40) Total: 980 / 1000 Extra Command Points: 1 Wounds: 49
Thanks for your lists! Will help a lot. We are sitting together tomorrow. Would eternal starhost be a possibility in 1000 points? How much mortal wounds are flying around at those small games? If one opponent has aof of mortals we can throw the nightaunt on that player while I try to get objectives? Pretty pricey though for low wound count
We ended up with this for my list. The battalion doesnt seem to be worth it if I have only 3 rippers. Really dont have the time to finish them sadly. Any comments or tips? teleporting steg and trog in could be a heavy turn with both a way to charge turn one more reliably Slann 260 Miasmic blade (-1 to hit), double tp Spell: Stellar tempest Starpriest 80 Spell: Meteoric convocation Steg 200 Rippers 140 Trog 140 Skinks 2x10 140 Balewind 40 1000
If you only have 1 artefact slot you should take Gryph-Feather Charm for your Slann. It is the same as Miasmic Blade, but also adds +1 to the bearer's movement characteristic. If you own 3 Razordons/Salamanders then I would take them over a Troglodon.
Thanks for the tip! I only have salamanders, would you really prefer 3 of them to a trog? I think trog could do some work in the backlines taking objectives right
He is a single model. This means he will only be able to take objective is he kills all units which occupy it while also occupying the objective.. On average against standard battleline this will mean that the Trog will have to do 10 damage to a unit with a 4+ save to take it in a single turn. Salamanders are less consistent than Razordons, but still more valuable than listing a Trog. The Trog is moderately good choice for summoning though.
