Hey there everyone! I just received my Hurricanum bitz from France and this Sunday I'm going to work on my Stegadon/EotG/Hurricanum. It gave me the idea to include more Freepeoples into my jungle themed Seraphon. These allied troops will be brave explorers, searching the deepest jungles for mysterious discoveries. I would love to do a paint scheme that echos the old-timey British explorers look.

    860eee368c4859eed81df60452aa2fba.jpg

Here is my Seraphon and Free Peoples list. I actually think it's pretty competitive and dangerous.

    List 1
    Leaders

Celestial Hurricanum With Celestial Battlemage (320)
    Scar-Vet Carnosaur (260)
    Saurus Eternity Warden (140)
    Skink Priest (100)
    -Priestly Trappings

    Battleline
    30 x Freeguild Handgunners (300)
    10 x Saurus Guard (200)
    10 x Saurus Guard (200)
    5 x Saurus Guard (100)

    Units
    5 x Chameleon Skinks (120)
    5 x Chameleon Skinks (120)
    1x Razordon (60)
    War Machines

    Battalions
    Eternal Starhost (80)

    Total:2000/2000

Between the Hurricanum and General, you stack to hit and to wound bonuses out the wazoo. The Freeguild general is insane. The Handgunners and Guard control the middle of the board. Good luck charging them when the gunners get to shoot you. It's slow and is weak against armies that ignore rend and are super fast, but it has a great midboard presence. It looks fun and I think the jungle themed Freepeople would look great with my Seraphon.
    What do you think?

    List 2
    Leaders
Celestial Hurricanum With Celestial Battlemage (320)
    Phoenix stone
    Freeguild General (100)
    Jade Battlemage (100)
    Saurus Scar-Veteran on Carnosaur (260)
    Quicksilver Pot
    Saurus Scar-Veteran on Carnosaur (260)

    Battleline
    30 x Freeguild Handgunners (300)
    30 x Freeguild Handgunners (300)
    10 x Freeguild Handgunners (100)

    Units
    5 x Freeguild Outriders (140)

    Battalions
    State Troop Detachment (120)

    Total: 2000/2000

No Carnosaur and no Bastiladon? You're mad! Haha! But this looks amazing, works well and good luck to any deep strikers!

Have you used any of the infantry from the free peoples? They look amazing. Everything is -1 rend. The shooting Calvary look great as well.

I used the reavers from swifthawks, and was going to build one with the handgunners, as soon as I find some!

Biggest issue I see here is that the free guild general can't buff the hurricanum or the hellstorm rocket battery. The key words are wrong. And, if you use the old CH warscroll, the +1 bonus only effects free peoples. If it were me, I'd run the Hurricanum and an Empire cannon.

I'll try to dig out my Free Peoples list later.

    Thanks Padre!!

I have updated my list and added a second one that look super fun. I seriously think that Freeguild is really powerful and could fill in some gaps for our armies. Obviously the Hurricanum is great at that but their other units as well. Their Handgunners are a more shooty unit of Skinks and their calvary are ranged and better versions of our knights.

What do you guys think? You could do some cool conversions too.

Here is what I'm running at 2000 for Freeguild. I'll have to give some thought to how a good mixed force would work. The second list looks fun, but needs more battleline. Remember that Saurus Knights are only battleline of you have a pure Seraphon list.

    Freeguild General
    30 Handgunners
    30 Handgunners
30 Freeguild Guard (I prefer Halberds, but there is a legitimate argument for all of the weapons choices.)
    Empire Cannon
    Empire Cannon (or Rocket Battery)
    Celestial Hurricanum with Battlemage
    Excelsior Warpriest
    2 Gryphhounds
    3 Demygryph Knights

Other options include swapping a witchhunter in for one of the Gryphhounds or a Jade Battlemage for the Warpriest.

    Enjoy and good luck.

Do the Handgunners count as battleline in a mixed army?

Yes. Handgunners are always battleline. They are close to my favorite battleline units in the entire faction. Stand and shoot is an insanely powerful ability.

I can see some merit to the crossbowers as well. It's only a 4 inch range difference, but that could mean 1 extra turn of shooting. You lose the guaranteed rend, and lower to wound, but you also gain more shots at 20 strong. At first glance the Handgunners seem like the clear choice but after thinking about the crossbowmen, they have some strong attributes that make the decision more difficult.

I think I've decided on making Freepeoples my 2nd army to collect. I'm going to slowly collect some units. I like the infantry style.

Here's the mid term list I'm going to work towards collecting:
    Leaders
Celestial Hurricanum With Celestial Battlemage (320)
    Phoenix stone
    Freeguild General (100)
    Jade Battlemage (100)
    Saurus Scar-Veteran on Carnosaur (260)
    Quicksilver Pot
    Saurus Scar-Veteran on Carnosaur (260)
    Battleline
    30 x Freeguild Handgunners (300)
    30 x Freeguild Handgunners (300)
    10 x Freeguild Handgunners (100)
    Units
    5 x Freeguild Outriders (140)
    Battalions
    State Troop Detachment (120)
    Total: 2000/2000

I might even convert some skinks, with some Empire style hats and guns. Then mix them into my large Handgunner units for some flavour. It will go well with my Stegadon converted Hurricanum and the other Seraphon. That and the jungle themed bases I plan to work on, should tie it all together.

The real question is, should i put my Freeguild general on a horse or a Coldone? Hmm... I wish I could take a vacation from work and work on all of this....

The cold one would definitely give him that explorer feel. Maybe you could even put lizardmen "guides" in every freeman unit to fit with your theme.

Definitely cold one, you can make the jade battlemage alongside celestial hurricanum with battlemage, basically you can build a couple from the hurricanum kit.

The idea of skinks with a feathered cap and musket sounds pretty fun! I think if I take my time with the bases and tie in some similar colors, the two armies could work together. I just need to sit down and put in some hard work!

I started piecing some things together for the Hurricanum conversion. I'm not great at converting things, so I'm going to keep it simple. It may not be a huge conversion, but it should work well enough for my local store. I just wonder how it will work with future tournaments. Some are more strict than others. Do you guys have any experience playing with conversions?

My entire army js kitbashes and conversions. Have never had trouble, if you have the app and the Azyr subscription you can always print off your army list with pictures of your models, that way opponents and tournament organizers have a visual representation to avoid confusion. I think if it is a buman mounted on a cold one it is less likely yo be confused for scar-vet on cold one as it will stand out a bit more.

Just a quick note on the list. You don't have enough units for the state troops detatchment. I'd probably replace it with either a hellblaster volley gun, find 20 points in the list and get more outriders, or find 60 points and add a cannon or a rocket battery.

I've never had an issue with conversions, either using them or facing them, as long as it's clear what they are.

Really? From what I have seen the requirements are 1 General, 3 units of Handgunners, Crossbowmen or Empire Archers, and 1 unit Greatswords, Pistoliers or Outriders.

    Is this wrong?
