Hi all! Finally decided it was time to show you some of my painted minis :) Any comments are welcome.

First off, let's start with my old lizardmen. These have been painted a whils so I am only posting as a nostalgic way of remembering my first painted minis.

Saurus warriors with albino temple guard:

    P5070064.jpg

Now a unit of saurus warriors with converted spears (cocktail sticks :))

    P5070065.jpg

    Old salamanders:

    P5070060.jpg

    Slann mage priest:

    P5070057.jpg

    P5070059.jpg

The new salamanders - these were painted not so long ago:

    P5070062.jpg

    P5070063.jpg

And now some of my recently painted (still WIP though) ogres:

    P4290035.jpg

    P4290036.jpg

    P4290039.jpg

    P4290040.jpg

    P4290041.jpg

So what do you guys think?

As soon as exams are over I will start working on my new llizardmen models. Only problem though is that I am still not sure on the colour scheme. I do not want the GW blue (too predictable) so I was thinking perhaps something on green. Any suggestions/ideas on a nice colour scheme?

Thanks for the compliment suppe :)

And this is my ogre female maneater:

    P4290033.jpg

As you have already probably realised, my main problem is the bases. I am always looking for that perfect basing technique but I never manage to find one that suits me.

For the ogres I have been given some ideas in an ogre forum but I am still at a loss for the LM. Was thinking on making flagstones out of greenstuff but I'm not sure on how it will turn out.

what about mixing some small stones with a little amount of grass? I will find a picture where I've done that with a space marine... I can see the base issue on the Lizardmen too... would advice you to make a green side and a brown top surface
    Ps. Poor male ogres XD

    Re: Aranigej's Painted Minis

I love the Ogres, great skin tones.....

as for Basing, for years I had that same problem, was so sick of the basic "flock"....then I discovered Vallejo's Pumice putty...spread some of that on the base, let it dry, coat it black, then, I dry brush it a dark brown, then a lighter brown, then.....something really light just on the top....(I use different colors, and the grays would work for a stony look. Then I selectively put some green static grass, depending on what you like best over small parts of the base to break it up a bit, and bingo, instant base.

I do my bases (paint not flock) actually before I paint the model, then any paint that gets on the base, I can cover with the flock, anyway, it works for me. Vallejo used to make a Black Pumice putty too, that is same as the regular, only black, which means it can go on after priming, or before, AND, if you have already painted the mini.

    Re: Aranigej's Painted Minis

Found this in a Danish hobby chain called Dragons Lair, it's pretty awesome for both, warhammers, D&D and other table games (even historical ones), live RPG, softguns, lots of comics (Manga, Warhammers, World of Warcraft, even Star Wars), Lots of action figures (World of Warhammer again, D&D), Cardgames (Yu-Gi-Oh, World of Warcraft, Duelmaster, Pokémon and so on). Then there's the part I love, they sell merchandise for warhammers but not made form Games workshop and this is where I found something useful for you bases, it's a company called Microart, it's from Poland (a plus for us Europeans) and they make some sweat sweat bases.

The link to the webpage: http://www.shop.microartstudio.com/index.php

    Some examples

All the bases can be found in sizes of 20X20MM, 25X25MM, 25X50MM, 40X40MM, 50X50MM, 50X100MM yet not with holes for core units

    Re: Aranigej's Painted Minis

Thanks for the comments. For the ogres I was going for an eastern (chinese/mongolian) look, hence the skin tone.

Will look into the basing suggestions you made John.

Nice bases there suppe!! A bit expensive to base a whole army but a very good source for inspiration!!

Will try making something remotely similar to the jungle bases as soon as I finish exams.

I've seen ogres done before with a snowy mountain theme for the bases before. It really looks good. If all else fails, check out Craken's ogre army. They look swicked!

Thanks strewart! (won't show you my old skinks though )

Hope to get some painting done sometime soon so I have new stuff to show you guys and see your comments.

Will also try a verrryyy ambitious project with the bases:

    1. sculpt ruins/temple pieces to attach to base (or search ebay for cheap ones :bored:)
    2. buy aquarium plants to attach to base
    3. sculpt snakes and other slithering/crawling nasties to attach to base
    4. paint base

As I said, verrry ambitious for me. We'll see how it goes.

Now off the ebay to look for some ruins (if anyone knows where I can get cheap ones let me know)

I know this german homepage, not ideal for any non-european (no offence) since it's in europe, but anyways they make kick gluterius maximums ruins, hills, fences etc.
    http://www.ziterdes.de/ziterdes/de/

    Bauwerke:
Pyramiden und Tempel: Pyramids and Temples
    Häuser: Houses
    Bunker: Bunkers
    Ruinen: Ruins
    Stadtkampf: Streetbattles
    Festungen: Fortresses
Stellungen: Don't know what they are called in english but those small ways that are digged into the ground.

    Gelände: Terrain
    Bäume: Træ
Felsen und Hügel: Hills and Cliffsides (also roads but ain't described anywhere)
Klein- und Ruinteile: Minor- and Ruinparts

They also make furnitures which is really awesome :p

    Thanks brundo!

I think those were my very first conversions. Cut off the weapons, drilled a hole in the hand and stuffed in a cocktail stick which I then painted. Very simple and crude yet the result was ok :)
