Hey.... Im a dude from Denmark who just turned 25 on this very day... Yarh! Well, I have been stalking around this forum for some time without being active at all. NO MORE i say Im quite new to the world of Warhammer and just started my second army. Yeah you guessed it... Lizzardmen! My first army was the Dark Elves but i did not really relate to the dark elven kin. I guess im not that good at being twisted, crazy and evil And i found them rather boring to paint. I got to admit the painting part is the element of this hobby i spent the most time on at the moment. I got to admit that i have yet to learn all the rules Its not that i dont like to play the game or want to learn the book inside out, its just that i want a fully painted army first. My thoughts behind the army: First of all i want to keep the lizzards dirty, dark and muddy. Something like this dude: Im going for dark greens on the skin and a bony look for the scales. The equipment of my army is going to be colorful with the warm orange and reds as the dominating colors. I like something like this:
Re: Dark Muddy Yet Shinny Lizzards - A newcomers paint log. I like the way your heading with this. Here's some related inesperation: (From APOCALYPTO) (blue Iguana) (Komodo dragon) (india monitor lizard)
Re: Dark Muddy Yet Shinny Lizzards - A newcomers paint log. Saurus Warriors Well, here is some pictures of my first regiment of Saurus Warriors. I got no pictures of the work in progress since i had no intention of starting a log in the first place. I will make it up to you in the next project Well, what to say about the unit... The idea of the shields being orange is that im planning on painting my future Slann orange. The Saurus Warriors of my army have painted their shields orange to indicate that the Slann is the protector and leader of their society. The Unitfillers of the regiment is a 4 armed Saurus Warrior and a huge viper and its handle. The viper is made for remaining pieces of my Dark Elf War Hydra. Im still quit new to painting, so i would really appreciate constructive critisme as im trying to get better Well, here goes. What do you guys think?
Re: Dark Muddy Yet Shinny Lizzards - A newcomers paint log. Well I have to say those look quite good, I really like all the tarnished and dirty metal, Yea the Orangy shield look pretty good with this paint scheme. The only improve improvement I can think of is maybe give the scales a thin wash of some sepia for a hint of color and warmth.
Re: Dark Muddy Yet Shinny Lizzards - A newcomers paint log. what do you think about the blue in the flame and in the lizzards ornaments, does it stand out to much? Im having a hard time to deside, but i guess i like it, just to break the scheme a bit up About the wash, yeah i can relate to that. Ill try it out and will keep you updated. Thanks
Re: Dark Muddy Yet Shinny Lizzards - A newcomers paint log. I rather like the minor bit of blue here and there, and the torch looks rather good.
Re: Dark Muddy Yet Shinny Lizzards - A newcomers paint log. I really do like the colors. One thing about black is any medium tone to bright tone will stand out, making an enunciation of the theme more prominant. The blue flame, imo, is a good contrast and a focal center point for the filler - good thinking! I have yet to make any unit fillers as I prefer to have the models. But lately, Ive seen a few units (yours included) that make the filler seem appropriate for battle, not necessarily a prop for terrain that would "seem to move with the unit". One question on unit fillers... do they count as the appropriate base-size for infantry for combat (ie. wounds, attacks etc)? Or do you only count and use the actual infantry models and not the filler?
Re: Dark Muddy Yet Shinny Lizzards - A newcomers paint log. Nice. I like the conversions. Is it your own named character? His base seems big to run as a saurus. But did i read four arms? I'd like to see some close ups of the convered guy. Or some pictures of just him. He really soarks my intrest. Well, him and that wurm. Pics please.
Re: Dark Muddy Yet Shinny Lizzards - A newcomers paint log. Nice Job! The unit filler was the first thing that caught my attention. The blue flame is a perfect addition!
Re: Dark Muddy Yet Shinny Lizzards - A newcomers paint log. Very good job great color scheme! Now I wanna see some close up pics of the champion!
Re: Dark Muddy Yet Shinny Lizzards - A newcomers paint log. Thanks for all the feedback! I forgot to upload the pic's of the four armed saurus unitfiller. I'll do it first thing tomorrow. Ill add some pic's of the wurm and handler in a sec The base is a 50x50 replacing 4 saurus warriors perfectly. I use them as replacement for the normal models, to create some variety and dynamics in a unit. Say, my 50x50mm wurm unitfiller would counts as 4 normal saurus warriors due to the size of the base. - did i get the question right, my english aint that good
Re: Dark Muddy Yet Shinny Lizzards - A newcomers paint log. 50x50mm Wurm Unitfiller As requested here is some close up on the wurm and handler. The torch is made of some greenstuff and a high elf bit. The pointing hand is a normal saurus arm stretched out and put together again with greenstuff. The wurm is remaining pieces of a dark elf hydra.
Re: Dark Muddy Yet Shinny Lizards - Update: unitfiller close up Four-armed SW unitfiller Here goes: Well, its a normal Saurus warrior based on a 25x50mm base. I glued and greenstuffed the 2 extra arms on the back of the body and glued a handaxe on the arm that use to be the shield arm. Quite simple and worked out allright i think. Do you guys like it?
Re: Dark Muddy Yet Shinny Lizards - Update: Four-armed SW Very creative. You should make that your own special character and give him 4 attacks with some other special rules. Looks really nice.
Re: Dark Muddy Yet Shinny Lizards - Update: Four-armed SW Thanks Well, im not sure my opponents would appreciate me making my own char's and special rules. Although I like the thought What kind of rules would you give him?
Re: Dark Muddy Yet Shinny Lizards - Update: Four-armed SW Work in progres - Salemander I got my hands on a old salemander model (i guess ) and as promised here is some pictures of the work in progress. 1. Skin & scales: Catachan Green and Bleached Bone 2. Skin: Drybrush with Kommando Khaki to bring out the veins and details in the skin 3. The "fin": Basecoated with Blazing Orange, washed with Devlan Mud. Finished of with highlights of differents mixes of Blazing Orange and Skull White. 4. Skin & Scales: Washed with Devlan Mud. Now ready for highlightning.... Stay tuned! How do you like it so far? Constructive critisme is most welcome
Re: Dark Muddy Yet Shinny Lizards - Update: WiP Salemander Wow the fin is looking really good so far! Its going to be a great model when its finished.
Re: Dark Muddy Yet Shinny Lizards - Update: WiP Salemander brilliant contrast! it will really help set the unit off from the army. Only bad thing is that enemy generals are less likely to forget to shoot at it (chameleon skinks any one? ). Brilliant work. I really like it at least
