Update on the slann modification. Chopped off all the bottom stuff and flipped the Ark of Sotek upside down to make a new supporting structure. Also I shrunk the back half of the poles the saurus are holding cause they were just going to snap off and looked too long anyway. This is all coming together, last steps are to greenstuff some stuff.

Also, this is my first large resin mini I've done work on. Resin is kind of miserable to work with huh? Not a big fan.

Yeah I don't like resin that much either.
Make sure to clean it properly or your colors won't stick.

I appreciate the warning. I gave it a scrub with a toothbrush under warm water, I think that is supposed to do the trick.

The store-owner gave me the advice to use some dish soap.
(thinking hard how to assemble my Slann ;) )

Yeah a little fish soap helps with the scrubbing. I also use a tooth brush for it. Works nicely.

Built my mortis engine while waiting for greenstuff on the slann to cure.
    SO. MANY. SUB-ASSEMBLIES!
it's a super cool model and there's lots of extra bits in the box I think I'll find useful but I don't know how they possibly expect you to paint this without sub assemblies. Like literally the engine itself is blocked on all sides by the gates.

I had even more subassemblies when painting mine, because some spots on the riders and the green ectoplasm are hard to reach.

Yeah I assembled all the riders and clouds (i.e. the lower half) a few months ago and am kicking myself for not breaking it up more. Ah well.

Also because inspiration struck I ended up taking one of the extra bits from the motis engine and made a flameskull from D&D. It only took an hour or so, and wrangling the flying stand was the hardest part.

Finished sculpting greenstuff for now. Gave the Slann a skull to perch atop his head to spice up the model a bit more. I wanted a big frill too like a stegadon, but it wouldn't fit with the throne. Considering my level of experience I think it turned out pretty ok. Funnily enough the front horn is the butt of a terradon just flipped around.

And while I had the greenstuff out I took the pillow from the mortis engine kit and decided to make "the comfiest skull throne ever." I'm planning to use it as an objective marker. Cause what is more worth fighting for than a pile of downy soft pillows?

Excellent stuff, that skull is cool, I have some spare razordon heads and one of them is going to find it's way as helmet as some point.

Pure beauty :woot: looks quite like clanleader/shaman. really like the adjustments.

Maybe if you paint him Orange he can go for Cubone:happy:

I hadn't decided on a color yet and now that you mention Cubone I just might do that!

Next project. I have 6 chaos warriors to do to finish off a unit of 30 thats been sitting almost completed for months. The last half-dozen are being done in the all black scheme before I switch to purple (i think) for the next batch of 30. This did give me a chance to try to do another stiched skin banner, which I think turned out pretty ok.

So major update to the challenge. I done went and ordered a whole mess of new stuff. I saw the StD battleforce was on "last chance to order" status so I decided to get it, a gargant (which I've had my eye on for some time) and 10 blood warriors (which will be converted to Chaos Chosen). I did sell off my Allopex since I don't think I'm ever going to do a deepkin army.

In light of this I'm slightly changing my goals for the year. I am just aiming to get my Chaos / Seraphon stuff done. The assorted death units will need to wait for next year. The first post in this thread is changed to reflect the new painting list.

In terms of progress I banged out the other five chaos warriors that my first group of 30 was missing. These will be the last of the pure black color scheme. They turned out pretty ok and I think I'm coming to a better understanding of what steps I'm willing to skip to get to a standard I'm happy with.
    20190216_144811.jpg
And I finished off the comfy skull throne objective marker. Pretty much got what I was aiming for.
