Is it possible for Seraphon to have cats as pets? I know the question seems strange, because all of their army is lizards and dinosaurs, but in the World That Was, jaguars were revered, and some Skink Priests might have had jaguar cubs as familiars. (I totally didn't make this thread to see if it was reasonable to put a kitten on my Engine of the Gods.)
They had jaguar standards and a god of big cats, so yes, fluffwise I would say you are well within your rights here. Also as first warning of a skaven attack, I would say kittens would be used by Seraphon /Lizardmen. Or you could just justify it as the slann remembered this one time a kitten crawled onto the engine, and that is how he creates his engines in the age of Sigmar.
Can they have guinea pigs too? I have been looking for a reason to buy these... (Totally buying them right now regardless and sneaking them into my big model bases as easter eggs)
Those are pretty awesome. My army has little goombas running around some of the bases, I can't really fault you for personalizing your bases. Beside, your guinea pigs could be Snowball from Pinky and the Brain, which is awesome when fighting clan Skryre or Moulder skaven armies.
The Old One Haunchi was depicted as a jaguar. And one of the Saurus Hero models used to have a pelt on his back. So yes!
I almost certainly have somewhere you can buy some, but I'll need to be at my desktop to investigate my bookmark collection... I'll get back to you in the morning!
Just to warn you. Apart from llamas, the Americas didn't have domesticated megafauna like Eurasia and North Africa did. Guinea pigs actually used to be cultivated as food source. I got some "Elven cats" bits from another gameline hoping I could use them as jaguars in Warhammer, they would be house cat sized for WHF or AoS. Way too small. But I'm sure you can find appropriately scaled cat minis if you looked hard enough. Humans can have reptiles and amphibians as pets. If Seraphon are individualistic enough to have pets period, I see no reason why they couldn't have small mammals as pets. One could argue that Seraphon are single minded-automatons who wouldn't take care of an animal if it didn't serve the fight against Chaos, but I prefer my lizards to have soul.
If somebody did argue that, then a good counter-argument would be that the cat is the familliar of the Skink priest on your EotG, and it makes the magic stronger. I also like my lizards to have personalities.
If @spawning of Bob doesn't do a humorous drawing for this thread then I really don't know what the point of this whole forum is. Also if @PhoenixTheCat doesn't enter feline-based fluff for the next story comp, I will be greatly aggrieved.
That is definitely true for the Incas. Mayans domesticated turkeys and some other water-fowl for food (like ducks), the only other animal they domesticated were dogs. They had a small, fat dog breed that the bred primarily as a watchdog but more often for food. They also had stingless bees for their honey (though those aren't animals of course). Reference Links: Domesticated Animals in the Mesoamerican World and Ancient Maya subsistence... or How they got their groceries (Part two: Animals) That being said, I am all for jaguars showing up from a modeling perspective in a Lizardmen army. Biggest reason I can think of is jaguars are revered by the Lizardmen: their used to be Jaguar Totem Warriors in the older books (5th ed), and more recently Huanchi, the Old One of the Night and Stealth, whose holy symbol is a jaguar. Some jaguar-themed saurus would be interesting to see, they would fill the gap for a Sacred Spawning of Huanchi, especially if they had a jaguar-print-scale-pattern, or some jaguar pelts. Some small feline jaguar-familiars or unit fillers with the unit would be an interesting addition as well. Maybe use the sabertusk cats that went with the Ogre Hunter hero-character? I am mostly thinking from the 8th ed Warhammer World perspective of course, but since it would work conceivably in my mind, I don't see an issue for making it work in AOS Star Lizard Trek. I wouldn't model them as mounts though. Why would the Lizardmen use jaguar-mounts when they can use DINOSAURS instead. +++1
@Warden why wouldn't you want lizards riding ferocious jungle cats? They would look much cooler than the current Cold Ones, and you could probably call them Fuzzy Ones to confuse your opponent.
I am guessing this is what would probably happen The pelts are holy (and pretty) after all, and I bet jaguars might be some holy-food for the lizzies to consume! But your point is very valid, the current cold-ones are loathed by many people for their rather "derpy" design. I personally like them (mostly for the scales, they fit the Mayan-asthetic), though the faces mean they definitely look rather slow... I have 15 myself. The Dark Elf cold-ones look much cooler though, like vicious Godzilla raptors. Image originally posted by @borkbork on a thread concerning Mammals in Lustria. Some extra jaguar ideas from the depths of the interwebs... Picture from the 5th Edition book on converting Lizardmen, on the bottom their is an idea for a Jaguar-themed headdress Jaguar Carnosaur, was sold by chuffingrand but posted on the forum by @n810 : Jaguar Skinks by @Patruck (link)
That is a cool idea, and the quadrupedal Cold Ones look epic, but my Seraphon wouldn't be caught dead wearing the pelts of dead cats or draping them on their warbeasts.
I agree with the sentiment. In this hobby pretty much anything you can imagine goes. You are bound only by the limits of your imagination. Don't be afraid to add your own unique flare to your army. X100
I think a unit akin to a Gryph Hound, only as a Jaguar, would be really cool. Riding cats... not so much.
