Hey guys first post and all that. Just started playing AoS since I needed a 2nd game system to try ensure I can get at least 1 game every week. This is the list I've been running so far Saurus Oldblood on Carnosaur (320) - General - Trait: Master of Defense - Artefact: Quicksilver Potion Saurus Scar-Veteran on Cold One (100) - Artefact: Relic Blade Saurus Scar-Veteran on Cold One (100) Saurus Scar-Veteran on Cold One (100) 5 x Saurus Knights (120) - Lances 5 x Saurus Knights (120) - Lances 10 x Saurus Warriors (100) - Clubs Bloodclaw Starhost (100) Total: 1060/1000 It's just over 1k but my opponents have been cool and let me play just so I can get used to the rules/what everything does and just added something or rolled on the triumph table. Looking to expand to 1500 and then 2000 asap since that's what people want to play. I'm a very competitive player and so are the people I usually play but I'm going to Japan again soon so funds are a little tight which is why I'm trying to do it on a budget but want buy stuff I'm 100% going to use in the future.
What he said! And if you want some variety pick up a cox of skinks. Make your two Oracles into a skink priest and a chief.
You can also easily convert skinks into chameleons and get a really useful unit on a budget. Very easy conversion
I expected as much XD Thing I've found so far is the warriors and knights just get rinsed then my heroes are the big hitters that actually do the damage. Think I'll budget myself £100 and look to adding another SC, convert some skinks and see what I have left over. Maybe a starpriest? Bastilladon? Guard? Warden?
Bastiladon is always a solid choice. Statpriest is a pretty easy conversion , or you can use the Oracle from the carno/troglodon sprue as a starpriest. I'd hesitate from warden and guard as they are only really effective when played with the eternal starhost. Running that, you won't be able to use your existing models as effectively. Could also look up cheap little dinosaur toys and run them as salamanders or razordons
I could get a SC box for a vet on carno, buff up the knight and warrior meat shields then convert a star priest and buy a box of rippers and skinks then run both bloodclaw and shadowstrike starhosts. Smash anything that threatens the carnos with the rippers/skinks and let them do the heavy hitting.
this is the list I could make with those purchases/conversions Allegiance: Order Saurus Oldblood on Carnosaur (320) - General - Trait: Master of Defense - Artefact: Quicksilver Potion Saurus Scar-Veteran on Carnosaur (260) - War Spear - Artefact: Quicksilver Potion Saurus Scar-Veteran on Cold One (100) Saurus Scar-Veteran on Cold One (100) Skink Starpriest (100) 10 x Saurus Knights (240) - Lances 5 x Saurus Knights (120) - Lances 10 x Saurus Warriors (100) - Spears 3 x Ripperdactyl Riders (140) 5 x Chameleon Skinks (120) 5 x Chameleon Skinks (120) Bloodclaw Starhost (100) Shadowstrike Starhost (120) Total: 1940/2000
Add a skink chief in there for the points, and for the fun of it. But dual carnos is always a good choice!
Would the chief be worth it over a roll on the triumph table? Could I make him the general and get use of his command ability along with the battalion all using their command abilities?
Yes, the brilliant bit about the bloodclaw is that none of them need to be your general. So that's 5 command abilities in your army, I would say it is worth it.
As an update I played the list I made today for my 3rd game of AoS (minus the skink chief cuz i was lazy) vs another seraphon player running thunderquake and shadowstrike battalions and managed to win 23-13 on mission 4 from the generals handbook. Things I learnt: Without buffs basic skinks are really bad and I absolutely destroyed his units preventing him from scoring Bastiladons are freaking annoying, especially in thunderquake. The bloodclaw battalion really relies on your troops to hold up the enemy long enough to allow your heroes to do the dmg.
