Hi, I had a book of Warhammer Fantasy Battles, about to begin assembling lizardmen, and got stuck on painting, too few around me played, and gave up... Fast forward... Got some new paint, and is about to revive my painting, and got a club in town now (moved), so I can play! Think i got a box of skinks, half with javelins, and half with handweapons and shields… Just wondering if that is ok as a start, of if I should assemble all as one type of unit. And, hello everyone!
Welcome to the forums! I'm guessing you are playing Age of Sigmar now which is great, but we also support people playing classic Warhammer Fantasy, Kings of War, and 9th Age. I happen to have lots of Skinks with javelins and shields and lots of Skinks with short bows (aka deathspitters). Because the javelins and shields were what I tended to use in 8th edition and the short bows were what I used in 6th edition. I'm not sure what the optimum Skink equipment setup for Age of Sigmar is. I would check out the Seraphon tactica forums for gameplay advice. For painting and model expansion, I would suggest buying a starter box and uses the tips in this thread to squeeze every penny for that purchase.
Welcome, build them all with one weapon type if you can. Get some pics up when you start painting, in fact start a blog and if you need any help we will try our best.
What happened to the painting methods? Are some of the basecoat, layer and shade / drybrush paint scheme actually newbie friendly? Where do i find a good looking newbie friendly method of painting?
I would say they are newbie friendly. I had neither skill nor experience in painting and I was instantly able to do that. Start with a basecoat, a dark shade, and a slightly lighter color for drybrushing. You can get nice results pretty quickly. From there you can learn all the other techniques.
