Lurked around these waters for quite long enough, time to shift this scaly behind from out of my rock. Recently got back into the hobby after the beat part of 8 years away from it. Played 4 games of AoS, overall enjoying it more the more I play and adjust to the rules but I do miss a good old block of Saurus and... OMG what on Earth have you done to saurus Games Workshop! Moving 40 skinks does get quite tedious. I haven’t rebased anything yet so still all (10,000ish pts) are all still on squares incase I hate AoS and decide to find the 3 other people in my county that still play 8th Ed (9th Age?). Any advice on rebasing, possibly to be able to use with both game systems? Anyway, great to be here!
Welcome to the forums! My advance on rebasing is summed in two words* "Don't do it." (It's actually two words in Saurian). You can play Age of Sigmar on round or square bases, but you must have square bases to play 8th edition or Kings of War. You have more options with square bases. I will admit that round bases look slightly better for display models, but if you fully base your models, round bases lose their one edge. Based movement trays really look kickass, especially.
Thanks! I know it doesn’t matter in a casual setting however I was under the impression that to play in AoS tournaments that they would have to be on round bases. Since that’s the system that likely gets the most support I figure that will be the one I play most. I also live 15 minutes away from Warhammer World in Nottingham so that’s another factor meaning I’ll play more AoS.
Round bases would be required for tournaments. They also look infinitely better... Come to the future.
I’ve grown up with 7th and 8th Edition fantasy and 5th and 6th Edition 40K, and have since associated everything fantastical with square bases and everything sci-fi with round bases - any other format just looks weird and alien to me.
@A_Reptile_Dysfunction Welcome to Lustria! See what you did there with the name - only male viewers will get the joke
you lucky man. That's a convenient place to live. i have mostly square bases, and i fear in the future will become more and more a problem to play AoS without round bases. ATM tournaments don't allow square. Regarding bases conversion... by any chances, yours are equipped with a magnet? because at that point you coul pick round bases with a small coin under them.
Welcome to the forum. I'd also recommend leaving your models on their square bases. Although, for the sake of transparency, I hate AoS, so take that for what you will.
