So finally sitting down and really going to make a cohesive army. Might as well use this entry for tracking progress so: Army 47 Saurus (primed, 11 in various stages of doneness) 24 Skinks (primed, 12 or so partially done) 8 CoC (primed, 1 painted) 1 Slann (primed, base colors WIP) 1 Skink Priest (primed) 1 Saurus Champion 23 Temple Guard 1 Stegadon (primed) 3 Terradons (primed) Concept The basic idea comes from the flavor text that a Saurus can never die for their sole purpose is to do battle and if asked to stand guard over a temple they will do so for hundreds of years. So. That's the idea. I'm still not sure if this applies to anything other than Saurus though; monsters and skinks. I'm leaning towards no because they are just animals, still not sure about the skinks. Which leads to the issue of me being unsure how to paint these and I can't decide what I want to do. -All Statue- -Alternative 1- -Alternative 2, Iguana- So yeah, any thoughts or feed back would be greatly appreciated.
I am quite sure that skinks die of (not so) old age, and the same goes for all other monters and beasts. But I don't have the codex at hand so Im not sure, but i believe that they describe Tetto'Eko as 100 years or so and being ancient compared to other skinks. Since I am a sucker for original pain scheemes and plenty of colour in the exotic armies of Lustria I'd say alternative 1 looks super nice. I do like the skink from alternative 2 better though, so I'd prefer the mix of the too. Especially those awsome striped tails! Bloody great artwork too!
Oh yea, Skinks have similar life spans as humans, there are a couple of famous old bloods that where in the battle of the polar gate collapse practaly at the begining of the warhammer timeline, yea they are still around, all the Slann are at least that old, a few where born before the other warhammer races even existed, Kroxigor can live quite long as well, Nakai (sp?) is quite anchent, not sure if hes is an exception to the rule though.
Some progress while I'm working! Going to wash the gold and then do the big hard part: the moss. The red of the shield isn't that red irl. Also thank you everyone for the feedback! I thought skinks had a short lifespan so that's fine. Probably going to go with alternative 2, Iguana Flavor on them so that the army is a bit more cohesive with the greens.
I have been trying to figure out how to paint my cold ones and I think your ALT 2 is the way I will do it. Consider the Idea stolen!!
@ruevein: No problem! Probably won't go with that since I'm using the iguana for my skinks. Here was the finished saurus btw.
Some more progress dang these are going to take a while. http://i.imgur.com/4ZB5lha.jpg http://i.imgur.com/mmJm06O.jpg So I decided to take a break from stone saurus and began painting my Slann. He's still WIP atm, so got more work to do. I'm a very slow painter.
great theme/colors! Another idea is maybe to have the armor on the saurus be verdegrised since its hammered onto their bodies, and they cant clean it.
The moss idea looks great, It would seem to me that the temple guard would be extra mossy then, since the are quite old and don't move around a lot.
Slann looks exceptionally good. It will be difficult to make a palanquin worthy of it but I think your attention to detail shows you can do it.
Sometimes when you pic a scheme and go for it... things... really dont work out. >_> Sadly that happened here. I will leave this guy as my chosen stand in for scar vet cowboy and unit champ, but I probably will go for something different for the rest of my cold ones. For bonus since it's been so windy (and I cant prime) have a conversion I did. Sort of hack job, since I got a bunch of used saurus. Well. Some of what was in that wasn't saurus, including a few templeguard without heads. So I made this guy a new neck, added something to his weapon, and put a CoC frill on a normal saurus head. New modeling tools! Silicone works very well for smoothing, which was a huge issue before. bonus filling in all the awful steg gaps. http://i.imgur.com/Lt6YrnV.jpg
