A friend and I are getting into AOS to run some doubles at a local store. Our idea is I’d play seraphon and be our main battle line protecting his ranged troops. In my mind I had
    Skink starpriest 80
    2x40 skinks with boltspitters 480
    3 terradon riders 120
    3 ripperdactyl riders 140
    Shadowstrike batallion 180

As of now I have start collecting and a box of skinks, plan on gettting a good deal for the starhost box. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks in advance.

    Welcome to Lustria!

I would recommend that Seraphon be the backline army. You can summon and spell support pretty well, but your army isn't very frontline durable.

So what in the Seraphon army would be good to compliment bonespiltterz using the "kunninrukk"? or would I have to play something else?

If your goal is frontline work, I would strongly recommend saurus over skinks, but I am also unfamiliar with orruks in general, so I can't really advise on how to best work with them, some details on his army list as well would be greatly appreciated.

He's using arrowboys to volley vasts amounts of arrows he's using 30 arrowboys, 10 regular boys, a weirdnob, savage war boss and then the kunnin ruk battalion.

Kunnin Ruk is pretty brutal shooting.

You could both just go for the ranged alpha strike and full commit to the Shadowstrike. It wouldn't exactly be complementary roles, but it should allow you to swiftly cripple both enemy armies. Committing to your strength might be more effective then trying to bolster a weakness.

That’s definitely something we’d do. Looking in what would you recommend? I can purchase the strike host big box and currently assembled 20x skinks w boltspitters.

If he's using the orruk arrowbrick, I would suggest a sunclaw over shadowstrike if you goal is SPECIFICALLY to complement the ranged arrowboyz, otherwise what you have now is pretty good. The strikehost box is just a pretty good choice in general, too.

Does it only give extra attacks to the warriors? I don’t have the book yet, what would be that strat and what would the list end up looking like? Thanks.

This is list I always use for 1k:

    Allegiance: Seraphon
    - Mortal Realm: Ghur

    LEADERS:
    Skink Starpriest
    (80)
    - General
    - Command Trait : Master of Star Rituals
    - Artefact : Gryph-feather Charm

    UNITS:
    6 x Ripperdactyl Riders (280)
    40 x Skinks (240)
    - Boltspitters & Star Bucklers
    10 x Skinks (60)
    - Meteoric Javelins & Star Bucklers
    4 x Razordons (160)

    BATTALIONS:
    Shadowstrike Starhost
    (180)

    TOTAL: 1000/1000
    EXTRA COMMAND POINTS: 1
    WOUNDS: 84

This list requires total commitment and good nerves. The goal is to hit the enemy hard enough turn one that they never regain their footing. Use the battalion's extra movement to run your 40 man Skinks into position. LoSaT your Razordons into range turn one. And lastly make use of your Ripperdactyl's deepstrike to kill the biggest threat/s the enemy has on field.

While the list is incredibly brutal, it is not exactly beginner friendly. You will need a good grasp of what is within your Ripper's kill range and you will also need to accurately assess your enemy's most crucial units. Sometimes this will mean killing the enemy's beat-stick monster. Other times it will mean killing a Fungoid Cave Shaman to rob them of Hand of Gork while tying up two large units of stabbas. Appropriately piling in with the Ripper's can allow them two or even three turns on the field, but you need to view them as a sacrificial glass cannon.

If you pilot the list skillfully you should be able to cripple at least one of your opponents turn one and then force the other's hand enough to make ample room for your Orruk allies to finish the job.

Seems fun and I can get most of it in the starhost box, I’ll be two skink w javelin short. And for the razordons, what would be a good alternative for now until I can get four?

You could always try your hand at converting some other similar models into Razordons.

In that list what if I used a Troglodon, instead of the 4 razordons for now? Or is the Trog not a good substitute.

Nothing is a good substitute for 4 Razors they are one of our best units, use what you have until you get the Razors. ;)
