hey all! I'm going to be painting up my first army and thought I would document my progress here I've owned these models for allmost a year without doing much but now finding some time to paint Going for a purple skin and pink scales just to be different . Having gone down the shop and been shown some basics likes washing and dry brushing I think I can get started here's my first attempts . Turns out I'm a poor photographer
Not bad for your first attempt, don't fall into the trap most new painters do and that is applying lots of different colour's try to keep to around 5 this will help keep the model consistent and more natural, if space lizards can be natural. If you have a smart phone download the GW painting app
Not a bad start at all. When you said pink I couldn't really imagine it but they look pretty good already.
Wow, these look super cool. I have never thought about painting them pink and purple, it looks really cool though. Drybrushing and shading are easy ways to improve your minis massivly, so continue doing that. Keep on the good work, and keep us updated please.
are you looking at making a lighter pink eventually? or more muted with washes. also, are the teeth picked out with a lighter purple? It seems like it, however I would suggest a bone or white for the contrast. I'd also reccomend white for the eyes due to the same. if you find the white/bone isn't covering well, I'd suggest a light under layer of brown.
I might try a brighter pink further down the line but have a pretty limited selection of paints atm. Haven't got round to the teeth yet. Been paining all the skin then scales in bulk. Its mind numbing
Right wee update went down to the shop for a couple of paints. Im really struggling with the teeth and eyes atm. Sorta making a mess of the face Pretty much got the bulk of a squad done thou
Wow so its been way over a year since I posted and I've not painted anything. Gotta love how real life gets in the way. Decided to get back into and paint something big and exiting. Having moved twic ein the past year I seem to have misplaced the bulk of my paints and also lost any skills I had But here goes! I am unsure how to paint the rider as I've yet to paint a skink! Also not too sure if im happy with the green wanted something brighter and more poisonous looking. Any advice/ tips are welcome
Also as you can see the banner on the back of the skink is snapped and so has teh posion spit but i think that looks ok . Any advice on how to fix this?
So the Scar vet on the carnosaur is my next task Which i have started. Am I the only idiot who glued whole model together before painting? Makes painting a pain I have learned
Looking good so far, certainly better than my first models I used to assemble my models completely, but as you say it makes painting some parts difficult, so now I try to only assemble the models to the point where I can still get to everything. Sometimes Models can still be assembled almost fully. With the Carnosaur for example, I like to keep the left foot seperate, the tongue, the crest. I do not glue the rider on either, and also keep him separate from the throne/sadle-thingy, in addition I do not glue his crest on, nor his shield and shield arm before I paint it. That is just how I do it, you might be able to do fine even if you assemble your models more completely, or maybe you keep even more parts separate, what matters is that you are satisfied with the result. One thing to keep in mind if you do not assemble everything before painting, is that if you paint anywhere where you intend to glue the model together, it will not stick quite as well, so try to avoid painting those areas, or just a small part of it at least. You should also be very careful when gluing painted parts, as the glue will ruin your paintjob should you get in anywhere it is no supposed to. Good luck with the painting , I will patiently await the result
