Ueman sensed something amiss in the jungles of Lustria. The slann’s connection to the old ones allowed him to sense when the jungles were defiled by invaders seeking the secret treasures of Lustria. Ueman called forth the skink priest Manauia and the skink chief Ihuicatl to mount their beasts and defend the jungles of Lustria from invasion.
Ueman sent forth a scouting squad of chameleons to gather more information on the coming invaders. Ueman aligned his forces and chose the location of the battle to best defend Lustria. Ueman aligned Ihuicatl to the front center of the field of battle so he could survey the field for his targets. The priest Manauia commanded the Engine of the Gods to the right flank along with cold one cavalry. Ueman sensed menace from all around him from the coming army, so he deployed skinks in front of his temple guard and behind him. To each side he sent salamanders to protect the flanks.
Ueman recognized the menace as a sign of chaos magic. Looking to the jungle ahead he began to hear rumblings of an army moving through the jungle. Ueman sent his consciousness forward to see what the scouting chameleons could see. Through the chameleon’s eyes, Ueman saw the massive ranks of minotaur advancing out of the jungles. It was a horde of beastmen that were sent by their chaos gods to defile the jungle of Lustria. As rank after rank of beastmen aligned themselves across the field, Ueman still could feel the chaos magic from all around him.
Ueman’s senses were justified as a beastmen skirmishing unit attempts to ambush from behind his army. Ueman’s deployment of skinks to the rear appears to be a gift from the Old Ones. Ueman ordered the right flanking salamander and the skinks in the rear to attack the ambushers, destroying them utterly.
Ueman, wise in the mystical arts, brought with him both the cupped hands of the ancients and the blood statuette of spite. Invoking the blood statuette of spite upon a bray shaman, the Old Ones hatred of chaos caused the shaman to drop dead on the spot. Ueman orders Ihuicatl to attack the second bray shaman, who was guiding a unit of Minotaur toward the Engine of the Gods. As the Engine of the Gods lumbered forward through the forest, the priest Manauia cast Uranon’s thunderbolt at the beastmen general and the unit he occupies. Beastmen bodies fly in all directions under the onslaught that is the thunderbolt. The advancing skirmishers ahead of the minotaur suffered as they neared the Engine of the Gods. The engine killed all save one of the skirmishers. As the Engine topped a hill, the stegadon’s rumbling gate was consumed b y a new noise, the thud of monstrous hooves cleaving through the jungle as the Ghorgon charged the Engine. Bolstered by the ghorgon’s great strength, a unit of minotaur charged the engine as well.
Seeing the advancing tide of Beastmen, Ihuicatl ordered the terradon riders to flee towards the main lizardmen force to avoid being captured in a charge. The advancing cold one cavalry was weakened by the sound of the ghorgon’s charge and broken when the terradons flew through their unit in retreat. The cold one’s riders could not make the stupid beasts stand to fight.
The chameleon cowered in the dense jungles afraid to move as the lumbering minotaur passed by unaware that they were there. Ueman casted the hunter hunts into the unit led by Khazrak the One-eye. The bolt penetrated five beastmen as it entered the unit. Under Ueman’s leadership both the terradon’s and the cavalry were able to rally their units. Ihuicatl ordered the terradons to drop their rocky payload onto the minotaur as they passed by them. This killed a one and wounded several.
Ueman’s excessive use of his magic caused a build-up of magical damage that he used the cupped hands of the old ones to direct it to the remaining bray shaman. Ueman used the beast cowers to contain the fury of the massive ghorgon.
Even as the Ghorgon cowered, the minotaur attacked the Engine of the gods killing the priest Manauia. The stegadon attempted to attack the ghorgon to no avail. The ghorgon shook off the beast cowers and struck the stegadon in a massive blow, killing it on the spot.
Ueman ordered the two front ranks of skinks forward to fire a volley of poisoned darts at Khazrak’s unit. Even as beastmen fell under a hail of poison, Ihuicatl began shooting them as well. At this point, Ueman used his mind to flush the chameleon’s from their hiding place to rain further poison darts on the unit that was commanded by Khazrak. Khazrak left his dying unit to their fate.
Ihuicatl fled from a minotaur charge only to be charged again by Khazrak, forcing Ihuicatl to flee from the battle completely. Charged by a minotaur, the chameleons attempt to flee but get trampled by the beastmen. A unit of Skinks nearing the Ghorgon unleashes a hail of poison darts at the monstrous beast felling it. The remaining bray shaman and a minotaur charge after that unit of skink skirmishers and overtake them, destroying the unit. This happens as more ambushers enter the battle from the right flank of Ueman. Ueman orders the Cold One cavalry to destroy those units in a charge. The skink skirmishers on the rear defensive flank rain down poison darts on the bray shaman and the minotaur with him. As they fell, Khazrak called a retreat from the field for his remaining beastmen.
Ueman knew that Khazrak would return, but Ueman would be ready…the spawning pools began boiling in anticipation.
