Rulebook - Big or Small?

Hey,

Need to get my own copy of the 8th Ed rulebook (havent played since 6th Ed) but not sure whether to buy the standard one or to try and get the smaller one off ebay (the one that comes with the Blood Island set). Can anyone tell me the difference? Don't want to buy the small one only to find I have to buy the big one too!

The small one is the first 200 pages or so. All the rules of how to play. The big one has an extra 300 pages of lore painting game types charts and extra info. Nothing you really need
 
the little one is better for quick reference during games; say you quickly want to check up on a rule it is far easier with the small one: its alos far easier to move around!

the largr one has everything the smalller one has, is easier to read do to larger letters: it also has a background and history to the warhammer world and a brief (2/3 pages) history on all the races and armies. It also has a large sction on painted miniatures and golden demon entries: many more scenario battles the smaller one doesnt, and also some brief tips on paiting, basing and converting miniatures.

Alos the smaller is a god damn sight cheaper!! :D

I think the large one contains a couple of scenarios and such that are uniqie to it, otherwise all of the extra pages in the big one are photos, fluff, drawings... Background information basically. The small one contains all the rules. So if you just want rules, get the small one, if you want lots of pretty stuff as well, go for the large one.

As stated though, the small one is much more practical for reference. ;)
 
I picked up my smal book from Ebay for around $25 bucks. Well worth the cost.
 
Pretty much what everyone has already stated. However, since you are looking at Ebay and not buying direct or from a LGS, you can get the big rule book for a fraction more of what you'd pay on Ebay for the smaller rule book. I've seen on several accounts the bigger rule book selling for $37-$45.

BarterTown (free to use and sign up) has some going for $30-$40 shipped which is a really good price considering retail costs. You'd just have to look for it within their individual for-sale posts (or just start your own want-ad thread, list a price range you'd buy it for or items you have to trade for it and wait for replies).

However, if you are looking for convenience then definately go with the smaller book. :smug: I use the big rule book for battles at home and the smaller rule book when I travel.
